How to disassemble the drum of a washing machine with your own hands

When the time comes for repair, the user thinks: to give the washing machine for service or try to fix the breakdown himself. In case of wear of the gland and other breakdowns that require the removal of the tank, the sequence of actions is important.

We will tell you what you need to do for a successful repair, how you can independently disassemble the drum on a washing machine.

Preparatory work

Before disassembling, you need to understand how to remove the drum from the washing machine. To carry out all the work you will need:

  • Various types of screwdrivers. Based on the brand and model of the SM, you will need a hex screwdriver, flat, Phillips.
  • Passatizhi.
  • Socket heads.
  • Wrench.
  • Hacksaw and blade for metal.
  • A hammer.
  • Metal bolt or chisel.

You may also need WD-40, which will allow you to remove stuck or rusted parts.

We disassemble the SMA to remove the tank

First of all, turn off the power to the washer by unplugging it from the mains. Shut off the water supply.

  • After unscrewing the fixing bolts at the back, remove the panel from above.
  • Remove the back panel by unscrewing the screws.
  • To remove the drive belt, pull it with one hand while turning the pulley with the other.
  • Remove the drum pulley. Fix it in one position and unscrew the fastening screw in the center.
  • Disconnect all wiring attached to the tank.
  • Disconnect the heater wiring.
  • Unplug the motor wire connectors.
  • Remove the motor by unscrewing the fixing bolts.
  • Depending on the CM model, it may be necessary to remove the top counterweight. To do this, unscrew the fixing bolts.
  • Pull out the detergent drawer by pressing the central latch.
  • After unscrewing the screws of the control panel, set it aside.
  • Disconnect the filler pipe from the powder receptacle. Take it away.
  • Unscrew the shock absorber screws through the bottom and remove the drain pipe by loosening the clamp.
  • Unscrew the noise filter fixing screws. Take it aside.
  • After removing the clamp from the cuff of the hatch, fill the edges of the seal inside the tank.
  • After removing the tank from the suspensions, pull it out through the top of the machine.

This method greatly facilitates disassembly, since it is not necessary to disconnect the front housing of the washer. For machines with a vertical type of laundry loading, the actions are almost the same, with only slight differences:

  • It is necessary to remove the back cover, as well as the bottom cover of the machine from the front, by unscrewing the bolts.
  • Moves and removes the side panel.
  • The wiring is disconnected from the casing and the fasteners are unscrewed.

Further, all parts are removed, as on the front-loading CM. Then, after you have unscrewed the drum and tank of the washing machine, start disassembling them.

Let’s start dismantling the tank

Two types of tanks are popular in washing machines: collapsible and non-collapsible.

Washing machines with a collapsible tank only require screws to be unscrewed around the perimeter in order to remove the upper part.

In non-separable, you will have to use a hacksaw to cut parts in order to get the drum.

Before proceeding with the repair, make several holes (from 15 to 20 pieces) to further fasten the tank.

Start cutting:

  1. Place the tank on its side, on edge.
  2. Examine the seam from all sides. You can start sawing from the place that you like best.
  3. Be sure to use a thin sheet of metal. The woodworking tool leaves a gap that is too large, making further sealing difficult.
  4. Saw around the perimeter.

Note! Disassembly of the glued drum of the washing machine is carried out in the same way.

To get the drum, remove one half of the tank. Then remove the pulley if you did not do so when removing the tank from the machine. Then you need to lightly knock on the shaft, use a hammer for this. This will allow you to pull out the drum.

Now, knowing how to get the drum out of the washing machine with a collapsible tank, you can make a decision: do it yourself or contact a service center.
