How to dilute hair dye. Video tutorial
If you have already dyed your hair yourself, you probably know that the dye composition is mixed immediately before the procedure from two components – a dye and an oxidizing agent. To obtain bright colors of the desired shade, it is necessary to properly dilute the dye and oxidizer in certain proportions.
How to get the shade you want
To color your hair at home, you will need:
- dye and oxidizer
- gloves
- glass stick for mixing the dye composition
- non-metallic mixing bowl
When dyeing hair, you must use ingredients from only one manufacturer
In a box with paint intended for home use, the oxidizing agent, or oxidant, and the coloring composition are packaged in different packages. You just have to mix them according to the attached instructions in a bowl and apply to your hair.
In the professional paint box, you will find only a tube of dye, and the oxidizer is sold separately. Moreover, it can be of different conditions – from 3 to 12%. The higher the percentage, the more hydrogen peroxide is present in the oxidizing agent. Depending on the amount of dye and oxidizer of a particular concentration, you can get a different shade of hair after dyeing.
The dye should be applied to the hair immediately after mixing and do not keep it longer than the time specified in the instructions.
Usually, when dyed in pure bright natural colors, the ratio of dye to oxidant is 1: 1. If you dye your hair tone on tone or want the desired shade to be one tone lighter, use a 6% oxidizer. To obtain a shade two shades lighter than the declared one, you will need the same amount of 9% oxidizer, three shades – 12%.
If you do not want to go to a hairdressing salon and are going to dye your hair yourself, you must not only properly dilute the paint, but also take into account some more nuances. For example, oxidizers for ammonia dyes and ammonia-free hair dyes are completely different preparations that do not replace each other. It is important to take into account the principles of coloring when diluting the paint.
What are the laws of color for?
Looking at your hair in sunlight will reveal its native, natural shade. Someone’s hair is cast red, someone else’s – yellow, and someone’s will even see a blue tint.
When mixing an artificial dye pigment with the natural pigment of your hair, you can get a rather unexpected result, far from the desired one.
You need to know some basics of color in order to find the right mix-tone for a paint of the right shade. If your natural shade is reddish, you need to choose colors of a greenish tone, you can get rid of unnecessary yellowness by staining in purple tones, a reddish tint of the dye will enhance the brightness of the selected tone, and paints in blue and ash tones, on the contrary, will make it dull, pastel. If you yourself cannot decide on the tone you need, seek advice from the professionals at the hairdresser.
