What is the difference between leadership and leadership? Should a manager also be a leader, or is formal leadership sufficient?
The leader influences those around him not so much with his salary, bonuses and fines, but with his personality and his energy. Most leaders use only one or two familiar styles of influence, and this is often not enough for effective work.
A true leader must be able to use different styles and methods of influence.
Leadership styles
As prof. N.I. Kozlov at the Leadership and Leadership training, there are three main styles of influence, their names speak for themselves: Silovik, Tactician and Dushka.
The silovik acts decisively and directly, easily goes into clashes and confidently argues his position. It affects primarily due to force pressure (both status and personal energy). Often puts the interlocutor in front of a fact or makes an offer that «cannot be refused …» The main way of influence of the Silovik is demands.
A tactician, on the contrary, moves away from direct influence and prefers to use external circumstances and the capabilities of other people to achieve his goals. He invents and implements rules that organize space and relationships between people in the right way. A tactician knows how to be in the right place at the right time and with the right people.
Darling influences gently and kindly, relying on good relationships and charm. It involves, inspires, creates desire and interest in a person. He knows how to persuade — with sincere compliments and warmth, attractive prospects and tempting offers, to which «I really want to agree …» The main way of influence is a request.
The employee did not make an important report by the deadline. The security officer will directly demand the completion of the task, explaining the importance of the document and threatening with dismissal. Dushka will talk about the talents of the employee and inspire him with confidence that the finished report will bring a lot of bonuses both to the company and to the employee himself. The tactician will establish a system of fines and rewards or instruct colleagues to take patronage over the employee.
A competent leader knows how to use all styles, and selects them «for the task», and not as it turns out. In what cases is it better to use the force method, and in which cases to turn on Dushka? When to be patient, and when to use all methods of influence at once? Professor N.I. will tell about this. Kozlov at the training «Leadership and management».
How can a leader develop leadership skills?
The traits of the Silovik develop primarily through external bodily manifestations: gestures of confidence, a low, energetic, loud voice, a collected and active body. Then — through verbal formulations: orders, demands, orders, as well as a firm «no», a confident refusal. In conclusion — the internal state «I am the owner!».
A tactician is first of all an intelligent and far-sighted person. Therefore, by developing our logical thinking, the ability to analyze information and the ability to think through the chain of events several steps ahead, we develop the traits of a tactician.
To learn how to act like Dushka, you need to develop the emotionality of voice and facial expressions: intonations are soft, enveloping, inspiring and warm, facial expressions are open, sincere, friendly. In addition, you will need the ability to give beautiful compliments and vividly describe the benefits of your offer.
You can practice different styles of influence and feel their effectiveness on your own experience under the guidance of N.I. Kozlov at the training «Leadership and management».
