Curtains and upholstery are the first things that come to mind when it comes to fabrics in the interior. Looking for variety? We, too! We present 9 basic decorating techniques that will allow you to “reshape” the house in a new way. And not a single piece will be wasted!
1. Fabric lampshades
Large lampshades reminiscent of the 1970s are back in fashion! The most relevant colors are bright flowers and stripes. To make the interior look solid, designers advise using the same fabric for covering the lampshade as for curtains or furniture covers. Fringe and pendants are welcome!

COUNCIL
The easiest way is to fit cylindrical lampshades – they do not require complex patterns. When choosing a fabric, pay attention not only to the pattern, but also to the properties of the matter – how well it transmits light. Keep in mind that a lampshade in a cool color scheme, such as green or blue, gives a cool, detached light, while red, yellow and orange give a warm, cozy light. You will find a large selection of lampshades in the Emile Marqu showroom, IKEA, OBI stores.

2. Patchwork
The patchwork technique is also suitable for upholstery. Once invented by the poor, this technique has attracted decorators who decorate luxurious private residences. The combined upholstery of sofas and armchairs is a real hit this season.

When there are so many beautiful fabrics that the eyes run up, you want to use everything at once! So we will do it. And don’t be confused by contrasts. Flowers and stripes, peas and a cage get along well with each other. The main rule is not to overdo it. Try to choose colors so that they do not argue with each other. If you are not confident in your abilities, buy ready-made furniture with patchwork upholstery. Such objects are in the collections of many leading brands.

3. Removable covers
With the help of removable covers, you can change the mood at home at least every day! Well, or at least twice a year, as the designers recommend. After all, just like curtains, covers are winter (made of wool, dense upholstery fabrics) and summer (for example, made of light cotton).

COUNCIL
Before sewing a cover, you need to check the fabric for shrinkage and strength, because you will have to wash it often. As practice shows, linen, cotton and wool shrink most of all. If the fabric is light (a variety of materials are used for sewing covers, up to organza), it makes sense to put the cover on the lining – in this case, it will last longer and keep its shape better.
4. Soft walls
High quilted headboards and fabric-covered wall panels look very impressive. In addition, this technique is good for heat and sound insulation (for this, felt, foam rubber or synthetic winterizer is placed under the fabric). Contact specialized workshops (Design Furniture, Victoria 7).

COUNCIL
Not all fabrics are suitable for headboard and wall upholstery. The material should be elastic, non-marking and preferably moisture resistant (look for samples impregnated with a special water-repellent compound).
5. Companion fabrics
Fabrics and companion wallpapers that complement each other in the interior can be found in the collections of all leading textile manufacturers. This makes the job much easier. You are given a choice of several fabrics of the same type (for example, three monochromatic, three with floral patterns, and three more with stripes), and wallpapers that are harmoniously combined with textiles are selected for each group.

A single color scale is able to combine fabrics of different compositions and patterns. The cage can be used for curtains, the strip can be used for upholstery.

COUNCIL
As a rule, several fabrics with active complex patterns dominate in one collection of textiles, the rest – more laconic – support or set off the “soloists”. So that the overall picture of the interior does not turn out to be too variegated, you should not get carried away with a variety of ornaments and colors, even if companions. Limit your selection to a few of the best examples.
6. Landscape in the interior
Panoramic images on the walls always look very picturesque, be it an urban landscape or a wild jungle. This technique helps to visually expand the space. Textiles can support the theme stated on the wallpaper, or be a self-contained element.

COUNCIL
Wallpapers and fabrics with landscape elements look best in large rooms. Ideally, the viewer should have at least 3-4 meters to retreat in order to be able to properly examine the picture. Remember that wallpaper is an active element in the interior, so everything else – furniture, light, accessories – it is better to choose the most neutral one.
7. Lambrequins
The direct purpose of the lambrequin is to mask the eaves rail and the upper edge of the curtains. A win-win solution is to use the same fabric for curtains and lambrequins. If the fabric is soft and flowing, it is better to plant the lambrequin on a rigid frame. If the material is dense and heavy, then no additional base is required.

COUNCIL
Often, the fabric itself dictates the shape of the lambrequin: striped, checkered and geometric curtains imply a clear straight edge or zigzags and teeth. While curtains with floral patterns allow for more frivolous curves and scallops.
8. Screens
Ever since the screen first came to Europe (it is believed that this happened in the XNUMXth century), it remains the most elegant piece of furniture that allows you to divide a room into zones. The latest collections are dominated by screens upholstered in fabric with a large rapport or in the capitonné technique. It is now a real hit of interior fashion. An alternative option is to paste over the hard sash of the screen with wallpaper with floral patterns.

COUNCIL
The most suitable place for the screen is the bedroom. Another option is a large living room. The interior will look more solid if you choose fabric to cover the screen to match the curtains and furniture. Do not forget that the presence of a screen in the interior always adds theatricality to the room – you can play on this when choosing accessories.
9. Textile panels
Some fabrics from the latest collections want to be looked at for hours – just like paintings. The designers proposed such a move: frame the samples you like and hang the resulting panels on the wall.

COUNCIL
When choosing fabrics for panels, consider the style of your home. In a minimalist interior, monochrome fabrics enclosed in contrasting frames will look more harmonious. The tapestry panel will take its rightful place in the lush, “palace” interior.
