How to deal with glass
The glass-bearer cleverly disguises itself as a wasp: it has the same striped abdomen. The pest attacks currants and gooseberries. Preventive measures are the most powerful insect control.
How to deal with a glass insect with improvised means
The appearance of this pest on the bushes is not immediately noticeable, since it settles not on fruits and leaves, but inside the branches. Its appearance can be guessed by the small leaves and unripe fruits. This is the first year of the bush infestation. The larvae feed and grow inside the young shoots. In the second year, grown individuals move into thick branches and eat wood there, and then move to the roots. In this year, the infection is already noticeable, as the top of the branches breaks and disappears.

To destroy the larvae, you need to cut off the infected branches, capturing live wood:
- In the spring, cut off any dry branches and remove any shoots that are on the ground.
- Inspect the bushes every 15 days, cut off dry shoots, capturing 4 cm of the living part.
- In the fall, trim and burn all branches that have died over the summer.
- To find hibernating larvae from October to February, you need to carefully bend the thin shoots in the middle. The infected will break down. Cut them off, grabbing the intact part.
Bend large branches to the ground. Damaged – will break, cut them out entirely.
You need to buy seedlings only in nurseries. They should be free of dead kidneys and wormholes.
To catch butterflies during the summer, paint the cardboard yellow or orange and place containers of fermented jam underneath. Place the cardboard near the bush.
How to deal with glassware by other means
Insects can be scared away from the bushes by planting flowers between them: nasturtium, marigold and calendula. Odor pests do not tolerate: onions, garlic and tomatoes. Do not plant fragrant bird cherry on the site: insects from all areas will come running down to it.
To keep butterflies out of the bushes, place a box of sand filled with kerosene between the plantings. Treat the bushes with fragrant broths, pests do not like the smell:
- needles;
- tansy;
- wormwood;
- Luke;
- garlic;
- citrus.
Spraying time is the end of June. The currant will fade, and butterflies will appear near it. Within 42 days, they will be ready to lay their eggs.
From modern means of protection, it is useful to use biological products containing nematodes – the enemies of these insects. Cuttings are treated with the drug “nemabakt” before planting. When the buds open, the bushes are sprayed with Antonem-F.
If such a pest has appeared on the bushes, it is worth checking and cutting off the branches regularly. Prevention and biologics work well. But chemistry should not be used, it is dangerous and ineffective.
