The default ribbon in Microsoft Office 2013 gives you quick access to many tools and options, but you can customize it more carefully to better suit your needs. You can create a custom tab on the ribbon or add commands to existing tabs.
To add commands to an existing tab on the ribbon, right-click in an empty area of any tab and select from the context menu Customize the ribbon (Customize the Ribbon).
The section will open Customize the Ribbon and Keyboard Shortcuts (Customize the Ribbon and keyboard shortcuts) dialog box Word options (Word Options). Before you can add commands to a preset tab, you must create a custom group on that tab. Highlight the tab you want to add commands to and click To create a group (New Group) below the list of tabs.
Note: In Office 2013, you can rename and reorder the tabs on the ribbon, as well as the groups that exist within them. However, the default commands on these tabs cannot be renamed or moved. You also cannot change the icons assigned to these commands. The names of preset commands in the list on the right side of the dialog box are grayed out.
So, the new group is added at the end of the list of groups of the selected tab. Custom tabs and groups can be distinguished from the default ones by the inscription Customizable (Custom) after its name. This label does not appear on the ribbon.
Select a new group and click the button Rename (Rename) below the list of tabs.
In the dialog box that opens, in the field Display Name (Display name) Enter a name for the new group. Optionally, you can select an icon that will be shown if the width of the ribbon decreases and the group does not fit on it completely.
The name of the group will change. To select a team and add it to a group, select the appropriate filter from the drop-down list Select teams (Choose commands from) according to which command to find. We’re going to add commands to the new group that aren’t currently on the ribbon, so we choose Commands not on the ribbon (Commands Not in the Ribbon).
Scroll through the list of available commands and click on the one you want to add. Then click Add (Add).
The command has been added and appears below the new custom group. Other commands can be added to this group. They are all listed in the order in which they were added. You can change the order of commands in a group using the arrows Up и Down to the right of the list of tabs.
When you have added all the necessary commands and put them in the right order, click OKto save changes and close the dialog Word options (Word Options).
A new custom command group will be added to the right of the standard groups.
If you want the created group to be on the left side of the tab, you can easily move it. In the dialog box Word options (Word Options) open section Customize the Ribbon and Keyboard Shortcuts (Customize the Ribbon and keyboard shortcuts) as described earlier. Select the custom group on the right side of the window and click the arrow Upto move it to the left. Pressing an arrow Down will move the group to the right.
To remove a custom tab, select it in the list and click Remove (Remove).
The ribbon is customized for the Office application you are currently using and does not apply to other Office applications. The ribbon can be customized in all Office applications that have it. If you don’t like the fact that all tab names are in capital letters, you can fix it.
Pay attention to the settings of the Quick Access Toolbar. After you have configured all the ribbon and Quick Access Toolbar options, back up your settings. This ensures that the settings can be loaded if you delete them and want to restore them, or if you need to reinstall the Office application.
