How to cure inflammation of the foreskin?

Hello. I have a question about my five-year-old son’s ailments. For several days I noticed that the little one has reddened foreskinHe also complained that he felt a burning sensation and a slight pain when peeing, and that he was itchy. During the bath, I also noticed that my son had small bright spots on his foreskin. My son seems to have inflammation of the foreskin, I signed him up for a urologist, but the visit is only in two weeks, I want to help him, because untreated inflammation may develop and the treatment will be more difficult.

How to heal inflammation of the foreskin? Are over-the-counter products available in the pharmacy, if so, how should they be applied, what is the dosage and frequency? I wonder if the inflammation of the foreskin can be caused by improper hygiene, my son learns to be independent, so there is an option that he is not washing thoroughly, maybe I should change the cosmetics for washing and body care. What are the others causes of inflammation of the foreskin? I am asking for a reliable tip, because there is still a lot of time to visit a specialist doctor.

The doctor tells you how to treat inflammation of the foreskin

Inflammation of the foreskin and glans penis is a common disease found in preschool children. The most common symptoms include redness and swelling of the foreskindischarge of pus, painful urination, itching. This is a situation that can cause secondary urinary tract infection – due to painful urination, the small patient stops voiding, which may cause bacterial accumulation and as a result – bladder infection. The cause of inflammation of the foreskin is usually caused by a bacterial infection.

Teach children from the very beginning how important the ritual of washing their hands is before and after urinating. The main treatment recommended in mild cases is frequent washing. Also in prevention, it is very important to pull the foreskin back once a day and wash the penis thoroughly with mild soap and water. In more serious cases with persistent symptoms, over-the-counter ointments with antibacterial and antifungal properties can be used.

The most important steps are bathing the penis with the foreskin several times a day with soap and water, and the child should also avoid touching the foreskin. If the foreskin is very red and swollen, and there is a large amount of discharge under the foreskin, you can use topical ointment or drops containing antibiotics, available only by prescription.

If local treatment is not effective, oral antibiotic therapy should be prescribed. If the doctor suspects fungal infection should write out antifungal ointments. If the child does not urinate or the child’s general condition deteriorates – the patient will most likely require hospitalization. Circumcision should be considered if the child has recurrent inflammation of the foreskin.

If frequent penile baths do not help, it is worth visiting a pediatrician, it does not necessarily have to be a urology specialist – he will be able to carefully gather the history, examine and prescribe the appropriate treatment.
