How are Candida glabrata infections treated?
Hello, I would like to ask for methods of treating candida glabrata infection. I’ve been feeling unsettling for some time symptoms of candida glabrata, such as a sore throat and a strange white coating. I thought it was a cold or the onset of tonsillitis, but the doctor ordered me additional tests and it turned out that it was symptoms of candida glabrata infection. I am a bit scared because I thought my problems were related to some normal infection and the results of the tests showing that I was infected with candida glabrata made me very concerned and surprised.
Therefore, I would like to ask, before visiting the doctor, what he looks like treatment of candida glabrata in the throat. Does any antibiotics for candida glabrata or there are some specials leki na candida glabratawhich I will have to take? I would also be grateful for information on how long it takes to heal candida glabrata until it is completely healed. I am struggling with this infection and the effects of candida glabrata for a long time and I would like to know if there are any effective drugs that will be able to help me relatively quickly.
The doctor explains the treatment of Candida glabrata
Candida glabrata, along with other genera of Candida species (e.g. albicans), belongs to the fungal family. Fungi of this species are ubiquitous, they constitute the physiological flora of our body, but in a limited number. However, there is an increase in the incidence of fungal infections with the participation of Candida species, especially in patients with immunodeficiency, e.g. in intensive care units, postoperative, in patients with neutropenia, with retroviral diseases, with previous use of antibiotics or immunosuppressants (including e.g. steroids, chemotherapeutic agents).
Candida fungi can be grown from the oral cavity in 31-55% of healthy people. However, colonization with this pathogen increases, the more serious the patient’s condition and the length of hospital stay. Most often Candida glabrata infection manifested by thrush of the oropharynx, esophagus or vagina.
Candida glabrata infection is treated with antifungal drugs, but it should be remembered that it is not a pathogen that is sensitive to all antifungal drugs, but only to some. Fluconazole, to which Candida albicans is susceptible, does not work with Candida glabrata infections – they are resistant to this type of treatment. Symptomatic infection (i.e. the one you can see in your example) is more difficult to treat and eradicate the pathogen. Of the drugs that may be effective in treating Candida glabrata infections (chemical names): Itraconazole, Amphotericin B, Anidulafungin, Micafungin.
Not all of these drugs are available on the market in the form of tablets or oral capsules, but injections, only Itraconazole is available in oral form. In the event of failure of oral treatment, it is likely that the doctor will decide on intravenous treatment. Treatment lasts from 15 days for some drugs to 7 days after symptoms resolve for others. However, it is the attending physician who should tell you everything and explain everything to you, because he or she will decide what treatment is best to apply. You must always remember that each drug has its own contraindications and side effects and each doctor must take them into account when choosing a drug.
