We will tell you how to create a Scandinavian style in an apartment, which is the embodiment of lightness and naturalness.
This particular style of interior decoration began to appear in the 1950s, and its popularity is still gaining momentum. Together with the Quadrim design repair service, we figured out how to recreate the laconic style of the inhabitants of Denmark, Norway and Finland at home.
It turned out that the secrets lie in inexpensive finishing materials, sensible decor and roomy storage systems. The apartment looks interesting and cozy even with a small area and a minimum budget.
The basis of the Scandinavian style in the interior is aesthetic beauty and an open space filled with air and light. The first step towards this is perfectly flat ceilings and walls. Most often, large sums are spent on finishing. However, there are options for what you can save on.
Here are some tips:
- choose wall clapboard decoration, and then paint it white;
- if the walls are brick, you can leave some of them as they are, only leveling them a little;
- abandon additional structures on ceilings and walls.
In the Scandinavian style, preference is given to natural materials, such as untreated wood, the price of which is quite high. You will spend less money if you choose modern materials that repeat the texture of wood.
Our selection: tiles, linoleum, laminate, floor slats, parquet boards, painted plywood, wood panels, lining, plaster, paint.
Expensive cabinet furniture is not our option. But open shelves, racks, storage systems – what you need! This fashion came to Russia along with Swedish furniture malls and won a large audience.
This type of furniture has many advantages: the cabinets are easy to assemble by yourself and assemble as you wish. At the same time, things are easily placed. And open, lightweight shelving will allow you to translate your design ideas into reality, expand the space of the room and get rid of the eternal chaos in closed cabinets.
Furniture should be present in a minimum quantity, so it is better to choose folding tables and chairs, sofa beds. They can be made of plastic, metal, or wood.
Our selection: shelving and furniture from light woods, upholstery from textiles, leather, flax, suede.
This style does not imply excesses and unnecessary knick-knacks in the decor, which increase the cost of finishing. There are no ceiling moldings and skirting boards. Originality is achieved through playing with color and texture, bright accents.
Against the background of monochrome walls (white or gray) bright “spots” look good. Fuchsia, yellow, scarlet – the choice of color depends on your preference, but do not overdo it. You should also remember about the classic combination of black and white.
Handmade items are well suited for decor: colorful knitted rugs, embroidered tablecloths and napkins, homemade vases. Large photographs or posters can be placed on the walls.
An obligatory element in Scandinavian-style apartments is live plants. You can choose from both traditional small flowers on the windowsill and trees in floor pots or decorative buckets. The green color of the leaves will add a sense of freshness and cleanliness to the room.
When choosing textiles, pay attention to natural, discreet fabrics. For example, it can be plain linen furniture covers or bedspreads with a soft ethnic print.
Our selection: pillows, lampshades, paintings, wicker baskets, ceramics, glass vases, plain or patchwork rugs.
Ideal for Scandinavian style is a combination of natural and artificial lighting. To add natural light to a room, only drape windows with sheer fabrics. Heavy curtains – absolutely no! Artificial lighting should not be concentrated in a single chandelier in the middle of the room. In our case, floor lamps, lights, sconces, lamps are suitable.
Our selection: large wooden windows and light curtains, lamps, candles, floor lamps.
