When you copy a formula, Excel automatically adjusts the cell references so that the formula is copied into each new cell.
In the example below, the cell A3 contains a formula that sums the values in the cells A1 и A2.
Copy this formula to a cell B3 (select cell A3, press the keyboard shortcut CTRL + C, select a cell B3, and press CTRL + V) and the formula will automatically refer to the values in the column B.
If you do not want this, but want to copy the exact formula (without changing the cell references), follow these simple steps:
- Place the cursor in the formula bar and highlight the formula.
- Press the keyboard shortcut CTRL + CThen Enter.
- Highlight a cell B3 and click on the formula bar again.
- Press CTRL + V, then key Enter .
Result:
Now both cells (A3 и B3) contain the same formula.
