The mouth and nose covering order was introduced on April 16 and is expected to remain in force until further notice. Most people choose a protective mask. Wearing the mask is intended to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, but wearing it all the time can be a nuisance. What to do to better endure the long hours of wearing the mask?

Who is required to cover the mouth and nose?

The obligation to wear a protective mask applies to all persons who:

  1. move by public transport, incl. by metro, tram, bus;
  2. they drive the car with people they do not live with, e.g. neighbors, work colleagues;
  3. they move on the street and city squares, also riding e.g. on a bicycle;
  4. they work as long as they have contact with people from outside in the workplace, incl. customers, couriers, and interested parties;
  5. stay in public utility buildings, incl. in offices, banks, universities, schools, restaurants, etc .;
  6. they shop in stores and at fairs;
  7. they go to various service points;
  8. using common parts of blocks, incl. laundries, staircases, elevators, parking lots, etc.

Who is exempt from covering their mouth and nose?

The following are exempt from the obligation to cover the face and mouth:

  1. children under 4 years of age;
  2. people with breathing problems – no certificate or medical certificate is required;
  3. people who are unable to put on and remove protection from their face – no certificate or medical certificate is required;
  4. people who drive together by car, if they live in the same household;
  5. people traveling by car with a child under 4 years of age;
  6. employees of workplaces, commercial facilities or public buildings that are not in contact with outsiders, e.g. customers, courier, etc .;
  7. persons working as drivers of public collective transport and private carriers, as long as they are separated from passengers by a suitable protective screen;
  8. clergy in the performance of religious rites;
  9. farmers working on the farm;
  10. soldiers of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland and allied forces as well as officers of the Military Counterintelligence Service and the Military Intelligence Service while performing their duties.

How to deal with the long-term wearing of the mask?

Although the face can be covered with a scarf, scarf or any other item of clothing, most people choose to cover their face with a protective mask. Unfortunately, for many people wearing it is very difficult, especially for several hours a day.

Most people feel short of breath, more drowsy, and lack of oxygen. The feeling of difficulty breathing increases especially during physical exertion or when we are in a hurry. Moreover, the constant contact of the skin with the material, or e.g. steaming glasses, may also be irritating.

Remember to follow the recommendations, but cover your mouth and nose only when necessary. Even a few minutes without the mask will allow you to rest and it will be easier to endure wearing it for a long time.

In order to better withstand the unpleasantness of wearing the mask constantly, you should remember a few simple rules. First, let’s only wear a mask if absolutely necessary. If we are not in contact with people from the outside and we are not in public places, it is worth downloading it, at least for 10-15 minutes, let’s do it. Such a break will allow us to rest. If we have to stay in a closed room, then it is worth opening the window and breathing deeply. We’ll feel better over and over again.
