Many legume lovers love pea porridge – a simple, hearty, and very healthy dish. It is not difficult to cook delicious pea porridge, especially since now crushed peas are sold, which significantly speeds up the cooking process. Consider several options for how to cook pea porridge at home, having whole dry peas.
Simple pea porridge
Ingredients:
- Dry peas – 1 tbsp.
- Butter – 50 gr.
- Water – 2 tbsp. (plus for swelling)
- Salt – to taste.
Pour the washed peas with cold water and leave to swell for at least two hours, or better overnight. Or, conversely, soak in the morning, and cook porridge in the evening, as it is more convenient. Drain the water, rinse the peas and pour over again with clean water, let it boil and cook on the lowest heat for 20 minutes. Salt a little, mix. If the peas have turned into a mushy mass, they are ready. Crush the peas with a potato grinder or rolling pin, add butter and serve as a separate dish.
Pea porridge – side dish
Ingredients:
- Dry peas – 1 tbsp.
- Onions – 1 pc.
- Butter – 50 gr.
- Sunflower oil – 1 tbsp. l.
- Water – 2 cups (plus for swelling)
- Greens – for decoration
- Salt – to taste.
Prepare peas – rinse, leave to swell and rinse again. Pour with clean water at the rate of 1: 2, after boiling, reduce the heat to a minimum and cook the porridge for 15-20 minutes. Finely chop the onion and fry in oil until golden brown over medium heat, without overdrying. Salt the porridge, cook for another 5 minutes. Mash the pea porridge, stir in the onion and butter (optional), garnish with herbs and serve as a side dish with spicy and fatty meat dishes. Remember that peas cause bloating and subsequent discomfort, do not get carried away by the number of servings!
