How does a slow cooker work?
It is a device that prepares a meal for up to 10 hours at a low temperature! As a result, the products gain flavor, the juices do not leak out, the food does not stick, and the sauce remains in the dish. Everything is done at temperatures below 100 degrees Celsius, most often it is 70-80 degrees, it depends on the temperature selection in the device program (low, medium, high). Thanks to this loss of vitamins and minerals is lower than with traditional cooking. Despite the fact that the cooking process itself takes a long time, it usually does not require much work. All you have to do is put all the ingredients in the bowl, set the cooking time (you can also set the time when the equipment should start working) and wait for the meal to do itself. Interestingly, despite the fact that it is a long process, vegetables prepared in this way do not fall apart and are not overcooked. It is also worth noting that this is not a technical novelty. The Slow Cooker hit the American market in the seventies of the last century.
How to use a slow cooker?
There are a few rules that you should also keep in mind when cooking in a slow cooker:
- The piece of meat put in must be of such a size that it is positioned in the center of the appliance and does not touch the sides,
- Meat should be fried before cooking, but it is not necessary,
- Cream, sour cream, milk is better to add in the last hour of cooking, because they brew with long heating,
- It is best to cook the pasta separately in water and add it in the last 30 minutes of cooking,
- Vegetables are best placed on the bottom of the slow cooker as their cooking time is longer than that of meat.
How to make porridge from a slow cooker?
Ingredients: 2 carrots ½ taste 1 onion 10 mushrooms 1 zucchini Can of tomatoes A can of beans (white or red) 3 cups of tomato juice 1 spoon of oil Salt, pepper, chili, and dried basil
Preparation:
- Cut the vegetables into pieces. Fry the onion, carrot and celery in olive oil for 5-10 minutes over low heat.
- Add mushrooms, zucchini, chili, salt and pepper and simmer for 5 more minutes.
- Put everything into a slow cooker and pour over the tomatoes and tomato juice.
- Cook at low temperature (LOW) for 8 hours.
Ingredients: 8 glasses of water 2 cups of cereal 1/3 cup of dried raisins or cranberries 2 apples, diced Cinnamon
Preparation:
- Pour the water into the slow cooker and add the remaining ingredients.
- Set the temperature to low (LOW) and cook for 7-8 hours.
Ingredients: 700 ml of tomato juice 1 onion 2 garlic cloves 3 cups of cooked rice 2 zucchini 150 g sera typu Feta 4 large red peppers Salt, pepper, Provencal herbs, fresh basil
Preparation:
- Pour tomato juice, chopped onion and garlic into a slow cooker.
- In a bowl, combine the rice, zucchini, cheese, spices and basil.
- Cut off the top of the peppers with the tail and fill the peppers with the stuffing.
- Put the peppers in a slow cooker and cook, covered, on high temperature (HIGH) for 3 and ½ hours.
