How to cook barley quickly
If the cereal has not been soaked overnight, you can speed up the cooking process, which usually takes at least two hours, by pouring boiling water over the pearl barley. You will need: – 100 g of pearl barley; – 300 g of water.
As soon as the water cools down a little, you must drain it and repeat the procedure from the beginning. You can do this directly on the stove by bringing the water, which is poured into the barley, to a boil, draining it and boiling the barley again in a new portion of the liquid. If you use pearl barley, packaged in portioned bags, for cooking, the process will go faster, since it is initially processed in such a way as to cook in a minimum amount of time.
How to cook barley in the microwave
The abundance of kitchen helpers allows you to quickly prepare barley without difficulty. Among those are a multicooker and a microwave oven. To get the finished product in them, you just need to immerse the pearl barley in a container, fill it with water and cook at the power specified in the instructions for the device. If there is a program “Porridge”, then this greatly simplifies the process, since it is not necessary to calculate the power of work and its duration.
In a conventional microwave for cooking barley, the maximum power is set, and it will take at least half an hour to cook with a volume of the original product the size of a glass. This method has a drawback, since in the microwave the water in which the cereals are cooked is almost guaranteed to escape from the pan, therefore a multicooker and a pressure cooker are much better suited in this case.
Cooking barley in a pressure cooker and a double boiler
Here, the process depends more on the size of the bowl and the planned cooking volumes. The pre-washed cereal is placed in a bowl, if we are talking about a pressure cooker, then it is poured with water in a ratio of one to three. In a double boiler, water is poured into a special container at the bottom of the unit to the specified level. The duration of cooking, as well as the temperature or power, are selected depending on the capabilities of the kitchen equipment, which is reflected in the instructions attached to it.
