How to connect a washing machine pump with your own hands

If your washing machine has stopped draining due to a broken drain pump, it is not necessary to immediately call the service center. Connecting the washing machine pump is possible without the help of a wizard. To connect the pump correctly, use our tips and instructions.

Below you will find connection options for different models of washing machines with photos and videos.

How to choose an analogue and connect

We wrote in detail about the causes and symptoms of a breakdown of a drain pump on the page “How to replace a drain pump in a washing machine.” Here we will consider in detail the connection of the pump.

But first you need to choose a high-quality analogue so that your work is not in vain.

The differences between the parts are mainly in the type of fastening inside the case:

  • bolts (3 pcs.);
  • latches (3-8 pieces);
  • combined type.

Electric pumps are connected using chips or terminals. Power can range from 19 to 20 watts. Also, the placement of contacts plays a role in choosing a suitable pump – the wiring can be attached both from the front and from the back.

Read on to learn how to connect a new pump.

Before installing a new pump, you need to dismantle the old one. All washers are designed in their own way, so there is no single pump replacement scheme. The order of your actions depends only on the difference in the design of the machines.

On a note. If you decide to replace the pump yourself, you will save a lot, since you only need to pay for the part itself. The main thing is to do everything right.

Connecting the pump through the bottom

This option is suitable for brands such as Samsung, Indesit, Beko, Ardo, Kandy, LG, Ariston and Whirlpool.

On a note! You can replace the pump in the CMA of the LG brand using the video:

In this case, to install the pump, disassembly of the housing is not necessary. All work is carried out from the bottom. This is considered the easiest pump installation option.

The scheme of actions is as follows:

  • Obestochte SMA.
  • Block access to communications.
  • Lay the machine on its side so that the drain pump is on top.
  • You can cover the floor before turning the machine on its side so as not to scratch the paint.
  • Remove the bottom bar that hides the trash filter.
  • If the bottom is covered with a cover, remove it by unscrewing the screws.
  • Unscrew the pump. The screws that secure it are usually on the outside – look for them where the drain valve is located.
  • Remove the part by pressing on it from the outside.
  • Hold the pump for a while over a basin or other container, waiting for the water to drain.
  • Loosen the clamps that secure the pipe and the water drain hose to the sewer.
  • Remove both parts, let the remaining water drain.

Important! This replacement algorithm is suitable for those cases when both the pump and the volute assembly are changed. If you are not going to change the snail, remove the part without it. To do this, unscrew the bolts that connect the pump to the volute and replace only one part of this complex.

Connecting a new part consists in returning all the elements to their places in reverse order.

Front panel connection

Do you have a German Bosch, Siemens or AEG washing machine? Then this option is for you. In these washing machines, the bottom is closed, so you can get to the desired part only by removing the front panel. Do it like this:

  • Loosen the top cover fasteners. They are located on the back of the case. Pull the cover towards you and up.
  • Remove the bottom bar.
  • Take out the powder flask, under which you will find the bolts holding the control panel. Unscrew fasteners.
  • Carefully separate the panel, being careful not to break the wires. Lay the panel on top without disconnecting the wiring.
  • Loosen and remove the rubber seal collar by prying it out with a thin flat screwdriver.
  • Tuck the cuff inward.
  • Unscrew the fasteners holding the pump, and then dismantle the remaining fasteners holding the front panel.
  • When removing the panel, remember that the blocker is connected to the machine by wires. If you are afraid to cut them off, take a picture of the location of the chips and turn off the wiring.

After removing the front wall, you can proceed to install the pump. The process is not much different from the instructions described above:

  • Disconnect pump wiring.
  • Loosen the clamps on the drain hose and drain pipe.
  • Remove the pump separately from the snail.

Attention! Sometimes you do not need to unscrew the bolts to remove the pump – just try turning the part to the left.

After cleaning the distributor, you can mount a new part and assemble the washer in the reverse order. After assembly, do not be too lazy to run a test wash to make sure that you did everything right.

Connection from the rear

Owners of SM “Zanussi” or “Electrolux” will suit this installation option. In vertical machines of these brands, installation is generally extremely simple – it is enough to remove only the side wall.

And in frontal cars, the rear panel will have to be dismantled:

  • Drain the waste water through the drain filter or hose under the plinth.
  • Slide and remove the top cover.
  • Unscrew all fasteners holding the rear wall.
  • Remove the wall and set aside.

Removing the side panel:

  • Locate the fasteners on the back of the case that hold the side.
  • Remove the fasteners that are located at the front and bottom of the case.
  • Slide the panel back and pull down to remove it.

Pump installation:

  • Switch off the pump.
  • Unscrew the bolts or release the latches, separate the distributor.
  • Clean the funnel.
  • Install a new pump on it.
  • Connect wiring.
  • Assemble the washer in reverse order.

Installation with strip removal

Relevant for owners of the Hansa brand. One of the easiest ways: to replace the pump, just slide the plinth panel. Under it is a pump that drains the water.

Unscrew and install a new pump following any of the connection diagrams above.

Now you can connect the drainage pump with your own hands, without resorting to the services of specialists. Choose the installation scheme according to the brand of the washing machine, buy a new original analogue of the part, and – for business.
