WDay asked connoisseurs how to protect a house from otherworldly forces, whether it is worth it to have a cat and be friends with brownies.
Advice was given by the head of the Rostov service of anomalous phenomena, esoteric Andrei Gorodovoy and magician, participant of the 16th “Battle of psychics” Namtar Enzigal.
“The most famous defense of a house from negativity, including evil spirits, is considered to be a horseshoe over the entrance to the house with the“ horns down ”since ancient times,” says Andrei Gorodovoy. – If up, then this should attract wealth to the house. For believing Christians, such protection from spirits is the seven-shot icon of the Mother of God, which is hung over the entrance from the inside of the house. There is a simple ritual to cleanse the house of intruders: put a plate of salt in the room. For salt – an ordinary candle-tablet. When the candle burns out, throw the salt into the ground. By the way, the most dangerous day from the point of view of the possibility of the appearance of evil spirits in the house is Saturday.
To keep order and harmony in the house, do not keep broken things. Do not sweep the floor in the house away from the door, only towards it. The floors should be washed in the morning, not after sunset. If you wash in the evening, you invite evil spirits to the house. And in the morning, on the contrary, you open the way for prosperity. Many evil forces “cling” to a person through shoes. Therefore, do not leave it in the hallway on the floor, hide it in a shoe cabinet. That is why in the old days bast shoes were hung on a nail at night, and they were guarded by a brownie.
There is a sign that the cat is the first to enter the house. But not all cats are protectors. If the cat lays down in the owner’s bed at the feet, then it will guard the house. If it sleeps in the owner’s head, then the cat itself is an energy vampire and will not defend the house. But the tricolor cat was dedicated to the goddess Lada among the Slavs. It is believed that this brings prosperity. A black cat from decent owners protects the house from witchcraft, damage and the evil eye.
To appease the brownie, it is worth putting honey in a wooden cup for him every Monday with the words: “To keep the house safe and help to make money.”

When everything is fine at home, everyone is comfortable and does not bother with anything, there is nothing to worry about, – the magician explains. – But if at the entrance to the dwelling a person feels discomfort, deterioration of health, a strange chill on the back of the head – this is a signal of alarm.
If it is necessary to cleanse the room of small scum that interferes with living in peace, it has long been customary not only to have it in the house, but also to fumigate the dwelling with wormwood. The smell from its burning is unpleasant for a person, but for spirits it is generally like a poison. In Russia, special protective dolls were also kept as amulets, which, according to legend, scared away evil spirits. A mixture of herbs was also sewn into them. In addition to dolls, the remains of animals were used (horse or bull heads on a palisade). But in our time, this method of protecting the house will rather only scare away the neighbors.
As for the cat, the perception of this animal and man is already very different from each other, even in the normal visual range. In addition, indeed, they feel the whole devilry much better than us and can, if not protect the house from otherworldly invasion, then at least signal the owner about it. Suffice it to recall the cases described when cats, for no reason at all, began to jump on the walls or, conversely, shit in the same place, watching something that a person could not see.
As for the brownie, I think that in modern high-rise buildings, as in the well-known cartoon, this is somewhat different. But if there is a brownie in the house, he will certainly announce his presence sooner or later. Then it is better to be friends and lure with him than to ignore. With good contact, he himself will make sure that no uninvited intangible guests stay with you.
