How to clean your washing machine: tips

If you were still sure that this unit does not need maintenance, we hasten to disappoint you. These household appliances can (and even need to!) Be cleaned of scale and dirt so that they serve you faithfully for as long as possible. We will tell you how to do it correctly at home.

First, stock up on vinegar and patience. In that order!

Pour 2 cups of table vinegar into the washing machine and run a long wash cycle. Leave the drum empty, no clothes or other detergents should be there. Wait a few minutes for the solution to start working, then press pause to stop the program and leave it on for a while.

After an hour, you can resume the washing machine and wait until the end of the wash.

Then we proceed to the second stage: we start a short wash cycle to wash off the remaining dirt. This should be enough for the vinegar to remove limescale, soapy water, bacteria and foul odors.

When the program is over, carefully wipe the inside of the door and the rubber seals with a soft cloth dampened with a solution of water and vinegar (in equal parts). After that we wipe the “insides” of the machine with a damp sponge, and then again – dry. Leave the door ajar to make the machine dry completely.

With the help of such simple tips, you can not only get rid of scale and dirt, but also from the musty smell that eventually appears in all washing machines. And so that it does not appear again, you can, for example, when throwing towels into the wash, add a glass of vinegar and select a high temperature. Baking soda is also suitable for this purpose, but it is not as effective against bacteria that cause unpleasant odors.

Another effective way to remove scale, rust and unpleasant odors is with citric acid. Lemons and its derivatives generally work miracles in everyday life. For a clipper, put a few sachets of citric acid in the powder compartment – the dirtier the clipper, the more lemons you will need. Six sachets should be enough even for a never-cleaned machine.

Run the machine with the longest wash cycle and the highest temperature. After that, you just need to wipe the inside of the machine and clean the rubber seals. Soda will do a great job with this. In the most severe cases, you can use a chlorine-based cleaning agent, but too often they cannot be used to clean the gums: chlorine destroys them.

Deep cleaning of the clipper in 4 steps

  1. Drain the drain pump and clean the filter. This is best done under running water, gently brushing over the filter with a toothbrush.

  2. Remove the tray where you put the detergent, wash them thoroughly with dishwashing detergent. Usually, powder residues accumulate in the trays, and mold forms.

  3. Place a few drops of tea tree oil in the white vinegar and shake well. Treat the inside of the machine with this solution, including the rubber seals.

  4. Pour a glass of white vinegar into the dispenser and idle the machine at maximum temperature.
