How to clean the LG washing machine filter yourself

SMA ElGee combines wide functionality, nice design, relative durability and reasonable cost. A breakdown of an LG washing machine due to the fault of the manufacturer is a rare phenomenon, but due to unfavorable factors, this happens quite often.

Basically, problems occur for the following reasons:

  • too hard water;
  • voltage drops in the network;
  • careless use of the machine;
  • neglect of care and prevention.

The latter just causes blockages. Usually, the user manual describes in detail how to clean the filter in an LG washing machine. But if you have lost the instructions, then we will tell you in detail how to pull out the part and clean it from dirt.

This will prevent a lot of possible breakdowns in the future.

Where to look for a filter in an LG washing machine

Service centers say that many users, when applying for repairs, do not even know where the drain or drain filter is located. Since it is not known where the element is, then no one thought to clean it.

In the SM brand LG, it is located in the lower right corner from the front panel. It is hidden by a small technical hatch.

The lid can be opened without any tools or fixtures, simply by picking it up with your fingers. There is nothing special under the lid, just 2 details:

  1. Round tube.
  2. Thin hose for emergency draining of water.

If the blockage is due to the machine stopping during washing, use a hose:

  1. Place a container to collect water.
  2. Remove a small but tight-fitting plug from the hose.
  3. Wait for the water to merge (and the process is not fast).

To remove the so-called garbage filter, you need to unscrew the plug. The task is easy, tools and efforts are not required. But we will tell you in detail how to remove the filter on the LG washing machine so that everything goes flawlessly.

Prepare

Not knowing how to remove the filter on an LG washing machine, you can burden yourself with unnecessary problems. Do not try to immediately remove the filter when you find a blockage. If you unscrew the part like this, then the water remaining in the tank will briskly flood your bathroom.

So even for such a trivial task as cleaning the drain filter, you need to be prudent and prepare for it. Follow our advice:

  1. The washer must be unplugged. Not necessarily, but just in case.
  2. There should not be anything near the machine that can get wet.
  3. Stock up on “helpers” – sponges, rags, a basin. Anything that can help collect the water gushing out of the hole.
  4. Slightly tilt the body of the CM, raising the front legs, and lay rags there or substitute a basin.
  5. In addition, cover your “operation site” with rags and you can start cleaning.

Cleaning

To start cleaning properly, roll up your sleeves and you can unscrew the filter. Usually it does not cost any effort – just unscrew the plug to the left, pull it slightly towards you. But if your filter does not unscrew, do not panic – just try to make it harder. If the cork is slippery, wrap it with a rag or use gloves.

If nothing helps, then the blockage is serious. But you still need to remove and clean the filter, so try to unscrew it in every possible way.

Consider in detail how to clean the filter. Feel free to use our tips:

  • Clean the part mechanically – remove dirt, thread, hair and all other debris.
  • Rinse the filter under running water.
  • If scale has already gathered on it inside, then use the classic method: cleaning with citric acid. Dissolve 50 grams of acid in a small container and lower the filter to sour for 6-8 hours. This will clean both scale and old dirt.
  • Examine the hole where the filter was located. It can also contain a lot of dirt and debris. You can shine a flashlight there. Wipe everything in the hole that you can get your hands on. In principle, at this point, the cleaning ends.
  • Screw in a clean filter. Remove the basins and rags, make sure the case is sealed and run a test wash.

What happens if you don’t clean the filter

Cleaning the filter of the washing machine should fit tightly into the schedule of household chores. Often this simple task is neglected for years, dooming your washing machine to frequent breakdowns, provoking a quick expiration of its service life.

Important! If the filter is not cleaned, it will clog so that it will be very difficult to unscrew it.

The machine will drain water for a long time, washing processes will be disrupted. Of course, at first you will be disturbed by error codes, and then the CMA will stop and will not turn on.

Knowing how to clean the filter, you can no longer ignore this unspoken rule and must clean it at least once every three months. And honestly, after every third wash.

And so that cleaning the LG washing machine is not so frequent, try not to clog the filter. To do this, inspect things every time, get small objects and debris out of them. In general, you can use the following recommendations:

  1. If you notice that the buttons on things are not sewn on securely, sew them on or tear them off, and sew them on after washing.
  2. Wash toys and pillows filled with small balls in a cover or pillowcase.
  3. In the same way, you need to wash things decorated with small rivets, rhinestones or beads.
  4. Shoes should also be washed in a case.
  5. Stitch up torn clothes before washing to keep threads out of the drain.
  6. Always check pockets.
  7. Remove stubborn dirt before loading things into the machine.
  8. Things from the beach – in the sand, rinse them first. You understand the principle.
