How to clean the hose in the washing machine with your own hands

According to statistics, blockage is the most common problem for any SMA. If such a malfunction happens often, then it is inconvenient to call the master to the house every time, and even more so – to transport the washer to the service. You can figure out on your own what to do if the hose in the washing machine is clogged.

It is a mistake to assume that to eliminate blockage in the hose, it is enough just to rinse it. First you need to understand where it is and how to remove it correctly so as not to damage it. But nevertheless, eliminating the blockage is an easy task, and about all its stages – below.

Washer blockage: what is it

Consider some of the reasons why a blockage in the drain may occur:

  • Accumulation of foreign objects and debris in the filter.
  • Failure of the drain pipe between the tank and the pump.
  • The pump has expired.
  • Damage to the integrity of the hose – cracks, holes.
  • The blockage was caused by objects that fell into the sewer pipe.

Disconnecting the hose

Before proceeding with the removal of the hose, first unplug the washer’s power cord from the outlet, close the valve to block the water supply. After that, be sure to drain the remaining water through the drain filter.

If you purchased a Samsung, LZh, Ariston, Whirlpool, Indesit, Kandy, Ardo or Beko model, then you will have to perform all the steps through the bottom after removing the bottom panel:

  1. Loosen the screws holding the filter.
  2. Try tilting the washer on its side.
  3. To remove the hose from the drain pump, you need to unclench the clamps. This is where pliers come in handy.
  4. The hose is in your hands.

Important! If your model has a drip tray, remove it to access the parts.

If you have a Zanussi or Electrolux washing machine, then you need to remove the back cover and follow these steps:

  1. Release the latches holding the panel.
  2. Detach the drain hose from the valve.
  3. Remove the back panel.
  4. Loosen the clamp on the hose and remove it.

These actions helped us come to the main question – how to clean the drain in the washing machine.

Hose cleaning

After removing the element, inspect it and make sure that it is not damaged anywhere. You will need a thin cable with a small brush on the end – it cleans soap deposits perfectly. For a gentle and effective cleaning, we suggest you use the following tips:

  1. Make progressive movements with the cable, returning it back from time to time. The process is similar to cleaning a sewer pipe from a blockage.
  2. Rinse the drain hose for the washing machine under running water.
  3. Set in place.
  4. Assemble the washer with all the parts in place.

To consolidate the result, pour 100 g of citric acid into the powder receiver, set the temperature to 60 degrees and turn on the “idle” mode.

Prevention

There are natural and mechanical types of blockage. They lead to the need for self-cleaning of the drain hose.

A natural blockage occurs if debris has accumulated in the drain system: hair, pile, thread, animal hair. All these particles enter the washer from the clothes during the washing process.

Important! Natural blockage occurs in the machine less often than mechanical.

Mechanical blockage is possible if small objects enter the washer’s filtration system, this leads to mechanical blockage. Instead of thinking about how to clean the drain hose in the washing machine, carefully check the pockets before washing.

At each wash, take serious measures:

  • Remove any little things from your pockets. If there is no time to sew on buttons that are hanging by a thread, seal them with sewing tape.
  • Wash clothes in a special laundry bag.
  • Use washing powders marked “Automatic”.
  • Try to clean the washer from scale, mold and limescale at least once every six months.
  • Use water softeners.

Now you know how to clean the drain system and how to disconnect the hose – follow our recommendations and do not forget about prevention.
