If you know how to clean a suede bag at home, it will last you a very long time.

In fact, bringing a suede bag to a decent look is not that difficult. Let’s take a look at the common blemishes that suede leather is prone to and how to fix them.

  • Stained spots and non-greasy stains can be removed with a regular stationery eraser. The softer the rubber, the better. It will help return the matte finish to the material. Instead of an eraser, you can use a soft nail file or zero sandpaper.
  • To freshen up the color of your bag, use a mixture of 100 ml of low-fat milk and a teaspoon of baking soda. Or dilute 50 ml of ammonia in 100 ml of water. Treat fabric with any of these solutions and rinse quickly with cold water, making sure not to soak through. Remove excess moisture by wiping the bag with a soft towel.
  • More serious stains can be dealt with with a liquid dish detergent. Dissolve a teaspoon in 0,5 l of water, add a teaspoon of ammonia. Moisten a soft cloth with the resulting solution and wipe off the dirt. Then rinse the solution with water and dry the bag gently.
  • If the dirt is difficult to clean, you need to steam it slightly by holding the bag over the spout of a boiling kettle, after which the dirt will be removed more easily.
  • Fresh proteinaceous or greasy stains must first be sprinkled with a generous amount of talcum powder. It will absorb the protein and grease, making it easier to clean the stain.
  • Stubborn stains can be tried with gasoline, but this is a risky method and only resorted to if other methods fail.

It must be remembered that during any cleaning, a suede bag cannot be soaked with water, you just need to rinse off the detergent solution and quickly remove moisture with a soft cloth. Otherwise, the suede will warp. Do not squeeze or twist the bag, dry near a heater, fireplace or on a radiator. After cleaning, you need to go over the entire bag with a special suede brush.

How to clean a light-colored suede bag

If you need to clean a light suede bag, you can use the same methods, but with some adjustments. So, you need to use only a white eraser to clean the oily areas. Black or colored will leave streaks on the fabric.

After steaming, you can rub the dirty and shiny areas with white bread crumbs, and then use a suede brush to clean the entire bag.

If you know how to clean a suede bag without damaging the material, your favorite accessory will delight you with its beautiful appearance for a long time.
