How to clean a feather pillow

According to hygiene rules, pillows must be changed or washed every six months. If this is not done in time, then microbes, mites will start in them, dust will collect. An unpleasant smell will begin to emanate from the product, and the appearance will become untidy. The question arises: how to clean the pillow and not spoil it?

How do I clean my pillow?

Products filled with synthetic filler can be cleaned of dirt using a washing machine – this is permissible. There is another way: to give the item to dry cleaning, but it requires money.

A pillow filled with padding polyester or holofiber is washed with a delicate cycle. Use a liquid detergent – it is easier to rinse out. The product, like a sponge, will strongly draw in dirty water, so you need to rinse it several times and then squeeze it well. While drying, periodically turn the pillow, knead the lumps, beat until it dries completely.

How to clean your foam pillows at home? This can be done in the washing machine without removing the pillowcase.

  • water temperature: 50-60 degrees;
  • mode – sparing;
  • spin: 700-800 rpm.

Any place with good ventilation is suitable for drying. In winter, you can do this by putting the product on the battery, but the smell will be more pleasant if the item is left in the fresh air for several hours and warmed up in the sun.

These pillows are more capricious than synthetic ones. With inept care, you can lose half of the filler, but if everything is done correctly, the product will become immaculately clean, soft and very fragrant.

Step-by-step instruction.

  1. Prepare three pillowcases.
  2. Open one side of the pillowcase.
  3. Remove the filler.
  4. Divide the feathers into three sections, spread over the pillowcases.
  5. Sew them up or tie the edge with tape into a knot.
  6. Place the feather pillowcases in the washing machine.
  7. Activate the delicate mode.
  8. Use a liquid detergent for woollens.
  9. Wash at 40 degrees.
  10. Rinse twice.
  11. Spin at minimum speed.

Dry the filler without removing it from the pillowcases, outdoors or on the battery. Whisk it from time to time. Transfer the dry feathers to a new or washed pillowcase, sew the opening with a double seam so that the filler cannot get out. Everything, the pillow is clean, it is ready to use!
