From a beautiful samovar, water seems tastier, and tea drinking turns into a holiday. But often on the sides and insides of your rarity are spots that indicate its age and careless handling. How to clean a samovar without damaging the polish, and what should be considered when choosing a product? It depends on the condition of your treasure, the material of manufacture, the type of pollution. In each case, the methods of care are different.

How to clean a copper samovar

A slight darkening, patina may appear on the copper, indicating the age of the product and giving it solidity. There is no need to fight this. And it is advisable to remove the greenish plaque caused by the oxidation of the material. There are several options for how to clean the outside of the samovar:

  • A solution of 1 tbsp is applied to the sides of the samovar. l. salt and ½ tbsp. vinegar, aged for several minutes. The surface is cleaned with a sponge, washed with water, polished with a dry cloth.
  • Black spots on copper can be removed by rubbing with a lemon cut in half.
  • For cleaning, a gruel of lemon juice and salt is used.
  • Ketchup is applied to the surface, after a few minutes it is thoroughly rubbed with a sponge and removed.

Each of the products is rinsed off after cleaning, and the surface is wiped with a soft cloth. Scale from the inner surface is removed by boiling in a samovar and leaving a solution of water with citric acid or vinegar for several hours.

How to clean a brass samovar

An alloy of zinc and copper was used to make samovars because of its strength, beautiful appearance, and ease of processing. With prolonged use, brass products tarnish, become salted, and get dirty. Household chemicals can spoil the appearance, but you can always find how to clean the samovar at home, among the usual products and substances:

  • A surface treatment with a solution of 1 tsp works well. ammonia in a liter of water.
  • Brass is gently cleaned with unsweetened yogurt. It is applied to the samovar, and after drying it is washed off with water.
  • The product is well moistened with vinegar and sprinkled with salt. The surface is rubbed with a cloth soaked in vinegar.

Do not use abrasive products for brass products. After cleaning, the sides must be polished with a dry cloth. The samovar should be stored in dry rooms. Excessive humidity causes dark spots to appear on brass surfaces.

Careful handling and proper storage will allow you to rarely clean the samovar. When leaving, you need to choose products suitable for a specific material. If your samovar is old, you can see medals and various inscriptions on it, it is better to order it to be cleaned by professionals.
