Our hands are almost permanently exposed to the viruses and microbes that surround us. We mechanically touch our face almost 3 times a day without even realizing it! Knowing that the eyes, nose and mouth are entry points for covid-000, good hand hygiene is essential. This is one of the most effective barrier gestures to protect yourself from the coronavirus.
When there is no water point nearby to wash your hands like in the car after going shopping, hydroalcoholic solutions are valuable allies. But you still have to choose them well …
What is a good hydroalcoholic gel?
A good hydroalcoholic gel must meet several criteria in order to be effective. When shopping, we therefore advise you to check these points because not all gels are effective against viruses, bacteria and microbes.
- Standard NF EN 14476 must be present. The presence of this standard on your hydroalcoholic solution means that tests have been carried out to verify that the latter has a microbicidal action (which kills microbes, viruses, bacteria etc.)
- The amount of alcohol contained in the gel must be between 60% and 70%. Beyond 70%, the amount is too large and there is a risk of developing skin rashes. You can find this information on the bottle.
- Check that the gel you want to buy does not contain triclosan. It is a toxic component found in many cosmetics. Triclosan is suspected of causing resistance to antibiotics, causing hormonal disturbances and even being responsible for breast cancer.
Use its hydroaloolic gel well
Once your gel is in your pocket, you must now use it correctly. Unfortunately, many people today still do not disinfect their hands properly with it.
Remove rings and other jewelry and drop the amount of a nut of hydroalcoholic gel in the palm of your hands. Then rub your hands together for at least 30 seconds, not forgetting areas such as between your fingers, fingernails or palms.
If your hands are wet, the effectiveness of the solution will be less. It is therefore important to use it only if your hands are very dry.
It should be remembered that although hydroalcoholic gels are very practical, they do not wash your hands, they only kill viruses, bacteria and other microbes.
Finally, its use is not recommended for children who must first wash their hands with water and liquid soap.
