How to choose wallpaper for interior decoration

Wallpaper is perhaps one of the most important components of a harmonious interior. This is a kind of background, and it depends on how correct it will be, whether the furniture, accessories and decor elements will look stylish.

At the moment, wallpaper is one of the most popular materials for interior decoration. With the help of wallpaper, which perform a hygienic, protective and soundproof function, they usually decorate the walls, less often the ceiling. Today, there are various types and types, therefore, in order not to get lost in this variety, we figure out how to choose the right wallpaper for decorating a room.

To find the right shade, it is not enough to find the most fashionable color that you like. You also need to imagine how it will look in your room. Take a few samples from the store (with slightly different shades) and move to a part of the room where the light is more subdued. You should not go outside, because the apartment uses artificial lighting and there is practically no direct sunlight. Remember what kind of lamps are installed in your apartment (warm or cold), and then finally decide on the color.

Don’t be afraid to experiment! Nowadays, interior designers offer many successful combinations, consisting of bright patterns that play the role of the main accent, and neutral additional elements. In the new season, various textile ornaments, various types of cells, denim, lace motifs, classic prints, airy floral designs and paisley patterns (in cucumber) have come into fashion. So don’t be afraid to combine the latest options and create your own style.

At one time, only paper wallpapers were used for decoration, which are environmentally friendly and allow the walls to “breathe”, but technology does not stand still, and now designers are offering a new type of wallpaper that is much more convenient to use. At the same time, even a novice master can cope with non-woven wallpaper, because unlike paper, which must be glued strictly according to the instructions, this type only needs to be applied to the wall, previously smeared with glue, and then the excess is removed. In addition, non-woven fabric consists of recycled cellulose and polyester, therefore it is suitable for children’s rooms or rooms where people prone to allergic reactions live.

  • In the bedroom, dark wallpaper (plain or with an unobtrusive pattern) will look good; against the background of such walls, furniture made in dark shades will harmonize. But if you want to achieve contrast, then choose dark wallpaper and light furniture.
  • Remember that vertical stripes will help to visually increase the height of the ceilings and narrow the width of the walls. Use this effect if you need to adjust the room.
  • On the other hand, horizontal stripes on the wallpaper will “push apart” the walls, but will create the effect of low ceilings. Therefore, choose prints and designs carefully.
  • By the way, for large rooms, choose large patterns, and for small ones – a small ornament, which will visually increase the space.
  • If you want to get additional volume, then choose wallpaper with glitter, which, under different lighting conditions, will create numerous glare, creating a three-dimensional pattern and visually “pushing” the room.
  • To achieve creativity, you can paste over wallpaper with a bright print on one of the walls (near the head of the bed in the bedroom or the wall in the living room where the TV will be located), and paint the rest of the walls in a suitable color.
