How to choose the right toothbrush? Video
According to dentists, toothpaste affects the cleaning result much less than a toothbrush. If you choose this “tool” incorrectly or do not learn how to use it, even the highest quality and most expensive paste will not save you from caries and other problems. Moreover, the wrong choice of a brush can lead to bleeding of the gums, the appearance of microcracks on the enamel, etc.
How to choose an ordinary brush
The most popular of all types of toothbrushes is the traditional option. Firstly, it is familiar, and secondly, it is cheap. If you prefer a regular toothbrush, first of all pay attention to the degree of its hardness.
Typically, the hardness of the brush is indicated on the packaging. It is not difficult to choose it yourself, but if you doubt that you can find a suitable option, consult your dentist
Soft bristles are often made with a material such as nylon. They are usually bought for babies under the age of five. It is also recommended to choose this option for people whose gums are very sensitive, since the stiffer bristles in such cases can cause bleeding. Toothbrushes of medium hardness are suitable for children over the age of five and for adults. This is the most common option. As for the brushes marked hard on the packaging, they can only be used as directed by a doctor.
When choosing a product for brushing your teeth, you need to consider two more important nuances. Firstly, some dentists recommend buying brushes with rubber inserts, not unreasonably believing that they are better at cleaning enamel. Secondly, products with natural bristles, despite all their popularity, can hardly be called a good option, because they are short-lived and, moreover, become a real breeding ground for microbes.
Advantages of ionic brushes
Ionic toothbrushes are not yet very popular, but some people consider them to be the best tool for dental care. These products are complemented by a special rod containing titanium dioxide. When using a toothbrush, this element attracts positively charged hydrogen ions, evens out the acid-base balance and destroys enamel plaque at the molecular level.
Ionic brushes are not cheap, but they help you save on toothpaste. The fact is that this product alone will be quite enough for high-quality cleaning.
An additional advantage of such brushes is their ability to saturate saliva with ions, significantly enhancing its therapeutic effect. This option is ideal for people with painful gums.
Should you use electric toothbrushes?
As you know, the result of brushing your teeth depends not only on the choice of the brush, but also on how correctly the person acts, whether he knows how to use such a product well. If you don’t know how to use a regular brush for the best effect, an electric model is a great choice for you. You no longer have to remember, you should clean your teeth with movements from top to bottom, from side to side or in a circle – the brush will do everything for you.
Electric models use a combination of two types of movements – reciprocating and rotating and pulsating. This allows them to quickly and easily soften plaque and then remove it effectively. Such brushes clean teeth much better than traditional models, but they also cost several times more.
Please note that some of these products have a number of additional functions. For example, these brushes have special modes for gently massaging the gums and for cleaning the tongue. It is also ideal for different people: you can choose the most comfortable cleaning mode, taking into account the characteristics of your teeth and gums.
Ultrasonic brushes for perfect teeth cleaning
One of the best options for cleaning your teeth is an ultrasonic brush. Such a product has a frequency of 1,6 MHz, and this allows them to destroy microbes that are not only on the enamel, but also under the gums. At the same time, the product has a strong healing effect, preventing the appearance of tartar and the development of inflammatory processes. Its use is an excellent prevention of many diseases, including periodontitis.
Many models of ultrasonic toothbrushes have additional features. For example, their bristles can move up to 300 movements per second, effectively and quickly breaking up plaque. Such models are complemented by several modes of operation, so that they can effectively clean the enamel without damaging it. At the same time, even people with weak gums can use ultrasonic toothbrushes, since such products do not cause bleeding and do not cause the slightest harm.
Ultrasonic toothbrushes are undoubtedly one of the best options often chosen by people with health concerns. However, they have two important disadvantages. Firstly, such models, unfortunately, are very expensive, and the more functional and reliable the product is, the higher its price. Secondly, these brushes have contraindications: they cannot be used to clean implanted teeth and are prohibited for people with diseases of the cardiovascular system.
