How to choose the right hairbrush?

Brushing your hair is one of the everyday things you shouldn’t neglect. Indeed, brushing not only revives the shine and softness of the hair; it is essential for maintaining healthy hair by stimulating circulation to the scalp and removing brittle hair.

But between the shape, the composition, the nature of the hair or the quality, we are often quite helpless when choosing the most suitable hairbrush! Here are some tips to help you find the brush that’s right for you.

Choose a good quality brush

The beauty departments are full of hairbrushes, for prices to suit any wallet. But if we can be tempted by the first prices, it is worth taking a closer look at the product. A poor quality brush can seriously damage your hair, by making it brittle or by attacking your scalp.

Which bristles to choose for your hairbrush?

There are different kinds of hair, which will be more or less suited to your hair type. Boar hair, composed of keratin just like our hair, is very popular, since it is particularly respectful of the nature of the hair and will bring shine to your hair. by tightening the scales of the hair. You will also find on the shelves nylon bristle brushes, or with hard spikes, or with small plastic balls at the end of the spikes, ensuring easy disentangling.

Which brush to detangle your hair?

To detangle wet hair, use a comb with a brush. or, if your hair is very thick or curly, a large toothbrush. There are also brushes designed especially for wet hair. Be careful, however, not to use the comb afterwards instead of your brush, at the risk of breaking the hair. To detangle dry hair, it will be advisable to opt for a brush with bristles of different sizes, which will allow a gentle disentangling. However, be aware of the risk of static electricity.

Choose a brush suited to your hair type

Depending on the nature of your hair, the brush will not be the same. For curly hair, we prefer a boar bristle brush, which are softer and will damage the hair less when disentangling it. For smooth hair, choose a skeleton brush with widely spaced pins, which will give volume to your hair and prevent them from regreasing too quickly. For thick hair, which are less prone to forming knots but often lack discipline, a large flat brush should be used, square or rectangular, with boar hair. For fine, flat hair, a 100% boar bristle brush is preferred.

Choose a brush suited to the length of your hair

For long hair, you will have to choose a round brush, preferably nylon bristle with a metallic body. Do not hesitate to invest in the extra large model to save time when detangling your hair. For short hair, choose medium or small size.

Which brush for which brushing?

For a smooth brushing, use a flat brush and for a flexible brushing, a round brush, which will add volume. The size of the brush will be adapted to the length of your hair: large brush for long hair (minimum 5 cm), and smaller for short hair. A good brush will shorten the time spent brushing. The heated brush, meanwhile, very fashionable at the moment, will quickly straighten curly hair, even thick. Be careful, however, not to burn your hair! These brushes are not to be used daily.
