Fishing is one of the favorite hobbies of men. But in order for the catch to please, you need to choose the right gear, and the float plays an important role. The functions of the float are to deliver the bait to the desired distance, keep it at a certain depth, and also give a bite signal. Floats are made mainly from lightweight and water-repellent materials. Handmade tackle made of cork and wood is very popular. Porcupine spines and goose feathers are also good materials. The stores have a large selection of balsa and plastic floats, which differ from each other in shape and color.
Float Composition
The floats are made up of three parts:
- – antenna;
- – ate (body);
- – keel.
Antenna – part of the float that is above the water and signals a bite. It is she who is painted in different colors so that she can be seen at different distances. Chassis made of various lightweight materials and does not allow the float to sink. Keel made of metal or plastic. It provides the float with stability and does not allow it to “lay down on the water”.
Types of floats
Floats are selected for different weather conditions along the hull and taking into account the characteristics of the reservoir. Here are some types:
Olive
Floats with this shape are used on lakes, ponds and rivers with a gentle current. Resistant to light winds and ripples. They are used at a depth of up to three meters and with a load of up to five grams.
A drop
This form is distinguished by the center of gravity, which is shifted down, as well as the presence of a long keel, due to which they are more resistant to ripples and wind. Most often used on the lake at a depth of more than one and a half meters, it is ideal for fishing for bream and other fish.
inverted drop
This form is suitable for fishing on canals and medium rivers. The preferred depth is three meters or more. Desired weight from 1 to 6 grams. Used when catching bream, roach and other fish
Spindle
It is used for fishing in ponds, lakes, canals (stagnant water). The float is very sensitive, so it is suitable for catching small fish, for example: crucian carp, roach, etc. The desired depth is up to three meters. The disadvantage of these floats is that they have a small carrying capacity. Because of this, it is difficult to deliver the nozzle over long distances.
straight float
This form has a small scope. It is effective only in shallow ponds and lakes, at a depth of no more than two meters. The preferred weather is complete calm.
ball float
The most common type, used in still water. Strong wind is not a hindrance. It also applies to rivers with a weak current. The recommended depth is up to five meters. In sensitivity inferior to the “olive”.
Float without antenna
This species is used when catching fish such as bream, carp, crucian carp. The bait should be at the bottom. The float itself should be under the surface of the water, and when biting, raise the top. Everyone chooses what is convenient. The float is only one part of good fishing. Just as important is the load, the hook, the fishing line, the rod itself and, of course, the place of fishing.
