How to choose the right black bread? How to choose black bread

Many varieties of black bread are sold on store shelves. Most varieties differ in the type of flour used and the presence of additional ingredients. In addition, black bread is baked in different forms.

The shape of black bread is:

  • in the form of a rectangular “brick” (traditional form);
  • in the form of a “loaf”;
  • round shape;
  • various shapes (black bread with additives).

There are a huge number of varieties of black bread with additives. The product is baked with the addition of bran, muesli, raisins, dried fruits, and other ingredients. In addition, black bread is sold not only as a whole, but also in sliced form, in packaging and without it. Buying a certain variety is the buyer’s choice. The main thing during the purchase of bread is to identify a low-quality product and refuse to buy it.

How to choose black bread

First of all, brown bread of any kind and of any shape must be evaluated visually. On its surface there should be no contrasting spots resembling burnt or, conversely, unbaked areas. The bread must have the correct shape. After identifying such signs, it is necessary to even more carefully examine the bakery products on the counter.

What kind of black bread can you buy:

  • black bread should have a pleasant aroma (if there are extraneous odors, then the bread either began to deteriorate and is stored for a long time, or has already begun to mold);
  • the aroma of fresh bread is pleasant and rich (bread cannot be odorless or have a weak aroma);
  • bread should be soft and elastic at the same time (hard bread will quickly deteriorate and will not meet expectations when eating it);
  • it is better to buy warm brown bread (there is practically no risk of buying a spoiled product in this case);
  • the crumb of good bread is always porous and relatively elastic (when pressed, the pulp quickly takes on its original shape);
  • brown bread made from coarse flour is considered to be of higher quality and healthier (such bread visually differs in a darker color);
  • The healthiest types of brown bread are those with ingredients such as flax and sunflower seeds, carrots, pumpkin, buckwheat, millet and oats;
  • when buying brown bread in packaging, you must carefully study the composition, dates of manufacture, packaging and storage juice, as well as other information specified by the manufacturer;
  • the shelf life of brown bread without packaging is 1 day, and without it – 2 days, so you need to buy the product within this period from the date of manufacture;
  • it is not worth buying solid black bread (the product was stored incorrectly or is no longer suitable for human consumption);
  • if there is a coating of any shade or greenish blotches on the bread, then the product is spoiled.

What kind of black bread is not worth buying:

  • if, when squeezing the bread, its pulp sticks together, then such a product is not worth buying (the bread is either not baked enough or is made from low-quality ingredients);
  • if there are damaged areas on the surface of the bread, then it is not recommended to buy it (damage may be the result of improper transportation or traces of the vital activity of rodents)
  • there should be no cracks or voids on the surface of brown bread (in the manufacture of such bread, production technologies were probably violated);
  • if the aroma of bread contains extraneous odors, then you must refuse to buy it (the bread is either stored for a long time, or has already begun to deteriorate);
  • eating bread with signs of mold is dangerous to health (cutting off mold will not eliminate the problem of the presence of bacteria);
  • if the manufacturer indicates on the packaging the shelf life of bread is more than 2 days, then the product is not worth buying (real and high-quality bread cannot be stored for more than 1-2 days, depending on the presence or absence of packaging).

Whole grain and yeast-free black bread have their own characteristics. The first option is considered one of the ingredients included in the complexes of healthy nutrition or diets, and the second type is prepared on the basis of sourdough, which makes it more digestible by the body. It is not difficult to distinguish such varieties of black bread, it is enough just to study the information on the price tag or packaging. Such products will taste different from traditional bakery products.
