How to choose martinis for cocktails: what goes well with them and how to serve them beautifully

Which gender do you think is more resistant to wine? When I was young, I was sure that we were definitely men.

Even if we proceed from elementary arithmetic: with the same amount of alcohol consumed, who will have more alcohol per unit of weight – a healthy, strong man or an elegant, fragile girl? That’s right, it means that the girl’s intoxication should come faster.

But here is one incident from my youth that greatly shook me in this confidence. With my girlfriend, I went to a party in a cafe, I don’t remember on what occasion. And along the way, we argued on this topic.

It seemed to me that I already had a decent experience in drinking wine, and I began to teach her how to behave correctly so that she would not blow the roof off. And she answered me, they say, it is not known who will blow the roof even earlier, and who knows how to drink better.

Well, we made a bet, no matter what. My friend had only one condition: she chooses the drinks.

How to choose martinis for cocktails

There was a bar in the cafe. My girlfriend said we’d have martini cocktails. She, they say, is well versed in them.

And for her, the white Martini Bianco is best suited for cocktails. Mild and sweet, she loves the sweetness and the subtle hints of vanilla in this vermouth.

“Yes, Martini is a kind of vermouth, didn’t you know?” she asked. Yes, I knew, of course. Still mocking.

The main types of martini, but, of course, not all

And she continues: “Look, there is also Rosso – red, caramel is added to it. A little sickening for my taste. Pink Martini Rosato is a mix of white and red varieties. Very interesting taste – so spicy.

But they only drink it separately, do not mix it with anything. Here are Dry and Extra Dry – the dry and strongest varieties, they are 18 degrees, also suitable for cocktails, but because of the citrus zest and wood extracts, an astringent feeling in the mouth. I don’t like it very much.”

Cocktails with martini and non-alcoholic ingredients

We decided that we needed to go up. First, drink drinks weaker in degrees, then stronger, as expected.

And here is our first cocktail: Martini with Schweppes. Any tonic or Sprite is suitable, and indeed, any lemonade with a lemon-lime flavor.

80 ml of martini in a glass are mixed with soda in the amount of 150-200 ml, a few ice cubes are added. Delicious, elegant and easy. How can you get drunk on this?

Then we drank martini with juices. Juices with sourness are suitable for cocktails. Not bad if they are slightly bitter. This adds sophistication and even some elitism to the drink.

First on the list, of course, are citrus fruits. Pineapple and cherries work well. You just need to mix 100 ml of martini and juice and add ice. We chose grapefruit. Bright and fresh. It still seemed like we were completely sober.

Cocktails with martini and other alcohol

So we decided it was time to move up. But not abruptly. A friend suggested a champagne cocktail. The ingredients are taken one to two: half a glass of Martini and a glass of champagne. Plus a tablespoon of strawberry syrup.

First, half of the champagne is poured, the syrup is very carefully poured into it, then the martini. Nothing is stirred and the remaining champagne is poured on top. Beautiful and sweet. There was a little noise in my head, and I said that this was a cocktail for girls.

Then my girlfriend suggested a classic of the genre – a James Bond cocktail. Like, feel like an agent 007. I agree, it’s fun and our way, like a man. So, 20 ml martini, 60 ml vodka, a few ice cubes.

A martini is poured into the ice, everything is gently mixed with a bar spoon, then chilled vodka is poured in, mixed again and decorated with olives on skewers.

And here is the legendary James Bond cocktail

This is a cocktail, I understand. Maybe repeat? But a friend said that there are still interesting options. And we started trying. “Dirty Martini” – 30 ml martini, 60 ml gin and a teaspoon of liquid from a jar of olives. By the way, the taste is unique.

Then there were martinis with rum, tequila, absinthe, some liquors still in the composition. I just couldn’t remember it all back then.

How beautiful to serve martini cocktails

And my girlfriend, it seems, was the same as at the beginning of the party. She smiled merrily and also told me how to decorate cocktails.

Yes, I saw it myself during the evening. I remember, with Schweppes, a circle of lemon was put on the edge of the glass and another edge in sugar. When they drank with champagne, they garnished the cocktail with a strawberry.

I already talked about James Bond with an olive on a skewer. A mint leaf and a slice of lime adorned one of the cocktails we drank, probably the one with absinthe. Or… I don’t remember.

I vaguely remember the end of that evening. The most vivid memory is how, laughing and telling how cool martini cocktails are, my girlfriend took me home.

And now, really, she is so small, fragile, graceful, and I am a healthy strong guy. Maybe it really is all about these tricky cocktails?
