How to choose curtains, designer tips
No, the right curtains do nothing of the sort. But sometimes we make mistakes that destroy all our efforts to create comfort.
It is not for nothing that women pay special attention to eye makeup. Eyes are a mood, they are feelings, they are depth, they are the light of the soul, after all. And this light should be profitably given to others. So, the windows are the eyes of the room. It doesn’t matter in an apartment, in a country house or in an office – there are different faces too.
Just like the wrong make-up or glasses, they change the face not for the better, improperly selected curtains kill even the cutest and well-thought-out interior. With the help of the experts of the JoyArty brand, we will try to figure out the design of the window space or, more simply, we hang the curtains taking into account trial and error.
Chunky curtains work well in large spaces such as a ballroom or a huge bedroom. Hardly many of us live in palaces. If you do not want to get the feeling of living in a cage, you should not decorate a window in a room of less than 25 “squares” with bulky structures that optically reduce the space.
For small rooms, light shades are suitable, the airy structure of the fabric, flowing in light folds along the window opening. But what about the bright sunlight that interferes with sleep? All owls will immediately ask this question. In this case, it is better to use roller blinds made of dense fabric over the entire perimeter of the window. By the way, interesting prints can be applied to them, for example, the smile of a Cheshire cat using photo printing, to bring in the spirit of a kind of individuality. But this is so, for lovers of everything unusual.
Window decoration is a purely personal matter. Some people like whites and creams, then you can skip this part. But if you want bright saturated colors in the setting, or you still intend to hang dark blackout curtains, the problem of burnout will arise with the first summer sunbeams. Agree, the effect of antiquity will fit into a museum rather than a cozy home environment.
So, the durability of a saturated color depends on the quality of the fabric and the dyeing technology. If the curtains are made of high-quality natural silk, then they are definitely not threatened with fading. But the cost of such curtains is too high. However, they can be replaced with curtains made of, for example, satin. The properties of the fabric are such that it holds the color for a very long time. Plus it’s not expensive at all. Another plus – the fabric allows you to apply any pattern you can imagine. For this there is a sublimation printing method – and it is also inexpensive.
3. Eclecticism, not a hodgepodge
Let’s imagine the small face of a young blonde in huge horn-rimmed bifocals – beautiful? Rather shocking and avant-garde. So it is with the window. Depending on the design of the room, curtains are also selected. This applies to shades and shapes. If the room has a lot of bright details and a wide palette of colors, then, in order not to go crazy, the curtains are preferable to select a calm pastel color a couple of tones lighter or darker than the walls.
If a calm interior prevails, but you want emotion, then a bright accent on the curtains is a win-win option. You can show your individuality in color, shape or in an unusual design.
Another point – try not to clutter up the window. In Soviet times, it was customary to hang curtains and tulle without fail. A complex interior does not tolerate such delights – there must be one or the other. If you still need a combination, simplify it as much as possible: a light curtain made of voile, chiffon or organza and a dense one made of linen or satin.
There are several rules in order not to eat up the space of the room and not to kill the interior:
– high ceilings will withstand any cornice. Low ceilings require the cornice to hang 10-20 cm below the ceiling;
– short curtains only for the kitchen;
– the more complex the curtain, the simpler the environment should be;
– palace draperies lying on the floor are impractical and already unfashionable;
– fewer parts – more air.
