In the spring, many consider it necessary to necessarily stock up on a pack of some well-known multivitamins – to “put the body in order after winter.” Is it necessary to do this and how to take micronutrients correctly, says the expert.
It seems that the idea has long been rooted in our minds that in the spring months it is imperative to go to the pharmacy and buy vitamins. At least, so as not to get sick with a cold, not to experience a breakdown and not suffer from vitamin deficiency – that is, a lack of vitamins.
But do we all really have this same vitamin deficiency after the cold season? The question is big and serious. And a simple monthly course of multivitamins is unlikely to help solve the problem. If not create new ones.
The fact is that without tests and a doctor, it is simply impossible to recognize vitamin deficiency. And improper intake of a complex of vitamins and minerals can cause sudden headaches, nausea, allergic reactions, and increased fatigue. And even liver damage!
“Doctors have such a concept – the capacity of a biological system. And if your body does not need this particular vitamin or a certain complex, then it will be toxic to your liver and other organs. And you won’t even understand where your problem came from! ” – the dietitian doctor shares
Interestingly, scientists still cannot give an exact answer to the question of how much vitamins are needed for the healthy functioning of the body. Most often they say that there are about 30 of them. But there are also vitamin-like substances, which are also sometimes referred to as “brothers”. And the main thing that experts have come to at the moment is that vitamins do not cure, but only support the body. Therefore, it is so important to maintain their balance.
According to the expert, the problem of vitamin deficiency after winter is greatly exaggerated. Of course, against the background of long cold weather and rare sunny days, we experience some lack of vitamin D and other essential trace elements. But this is absolutely not the reason why you should take capsules from the pharmacy for weeks!
“If you eat a balanced diet, and your diet regularly contains vegetables, herbs, fruits, cereals and legumes, dairy products, lean meat, as well as poultry, fish, seafood, then believe me, you don’t really need vitamin complexes.
If you still notice some abnormalities, such as significant loss of strength, unusual dry skin and hair, brittleness and loss, lips sticking, deterioration of vision and joint health, then please do not try to heal yourself. Seek the advice of a therapist, ”advises a dietitian.
However, if you do not have the opportunity to go to the clinic or do a detailed analysis of micronutrient deficiencies, you can still try to drink a course of multivitamins. But not counting on a colossal result and at the same time strictly following the rules, not exceeding the permitted rate.
Alexandra Noev advises not to pay attention to the manufacturer’s brand and attractive advertising. The main thing is to study the composition of the complex.
“A good multivitamin preparation will necessarily contain 1 mg of vitamin A, 10-30 mg of vitamin E, 1,5-2 mg of each vitamin of group B, 0,2-0,6 mg of folic acid, 10-20 mg of iron, 10 -15 mg zinc, 1-2 mg copper, 30-100 mcg iodine.
Sometimes the amount of vitamins and minerals is indicated as a percentage of the daily value. Don’t overdo it! In pharmacies, complexes containing up to 800% of the daily intake of vitamins are often found. But still, it is better to give preference to those that will provide you with 50-150% of this indicator. Firstly, our body will not assimilate more than 100% of microelements. Secondly, all the “leftovers” will have to be processed by the liver, which can be a real blow for it, “the specialist concludes.
