How to choose aluminum blinds

The blinds have a lot of advantages: they do not fade in the sun, they do not wrinkle, they do not get very dirty. They can be successfully combined with curtains or made a real highlight of your interior.

Aluminum blinds

Before ordering blinds, take a good look at your room and think if they fit here in style. Definitely, standard blinds will not fit into classic, English, country style, etc. Here you will have to look for some unusual solutions. But in high-tech or modern – what you need. By the way, you can combine blinds with curtains. For example, when the blinds are attached inside the window opening and directly close the glass, and curtains are attached above the window on the cornice.

In addition, immediately think about where the blinds will be mounted: outside or inside the window opening. And on which side they will move apart. Be sure to consider if the assembled blinds will interfere with the opening of the window. And is there enough space on the windowsill for free turns of blinds and mother’s favorite flowers.

Making a choice

Depending on the location of the lamellas (strips of material: fabric, plastic, wood or metal), blinds are divided into vertical and horizontal. Roller blinds, which are also called roller blinds, stand apart here. The most popular now are vertical blinds. When choosing, pay special attention to the quality of the runners. The operation of the vertical blinds mechanism primarily depends on this detail. Therefore, open the exhibition samples several times, and when installing at home, check how the movable curtains behave. High-quality runners do not creak or jam when cornering, the sipes open and close smoothly. If something does not suit you, immediately tell the master about it. He is obliged to either correct the defect on the spot or to redesign your order.

In addition, the blinds can still be divided according to the control method into mechanical (pull on the strings – the blinds will open) and automatic, when a mechanism with a motor is attached to the cornice of the blinds, which is controlled from the remote control.

Attention! Before moving the slats, they must be turned perpendicular to the window. If this is not done, the mechanism will fail much faster.

Usually the lamellas of vertical blinds are made of fabric, plastic, straw, wood, aluminum.

Concerning fabric blinds, most often you can find lamellas made of polyester – a durable material that practically does not fade in the sun and is easy to clean. But if synthetics do not fit into your eco-style, you can look for cotton blinds, which, however, will cost more.

Blinds can be made of non-woven material. It is cheaper than woven, but it does not tolerate moisture well and gets dirty faster.

For the kitchen, where increased requirements for fire safety are imposed, you can choose blinds made of fiberglass, which does not burn in a fire, and in the event of a fire, it seems to bake, does not smoke and does not emit harmful substances.

Plastic blinds are more suitable for offices or glazed loggias. It will not be so comfortable with them in the apartment.

Wooden blinds are quite expensive. They are usually made from durable light wood, processed using a special technology. The vertical lamella of wooden blinds consists of many thin strips of wood, connected by threads to form a canvas. It is very easy to care for these blinds – vacuuming regularly.

Blinds made of straw or bamboo – an environmentally friendly and very fashionable option, but at the same time quite expensive. Bamboo blinds are most commonly found horizontally and come in a variety of colors, from light wood to red and dark.

Aluminum blinds are usually covered with multi-colored enamel. They can be white, beige, blue, silver, golden, etc.

Prices

In most cases, blinds are sold per square meter. The price per square meter includes everything – lamellas, cornice, runners, etc. Only some firms can offer you more expensive mechanisms for which you will have to pay extra.

  • Fabric blinds – from 350 rubles. up to 1500 rubles / sq. m depending on the collection.
  • Plastic – from 600 rubles / sq. m.
  • Straws – from 1200 rubles / sq. m.
  • Bamboo – from 3000 rubles / sq. m.

How to calculate the size of the blinds

It will be better if a designer or a master of the manufacturing company comes to your house, you tell him and show what you want to have as a result, and he will measure everything himself (most often this service is provided free of charge).

But you can measure the size of your window yourself. If it is decided to hang the blinds inside the window opening, then it is necessary to subtract a couple of centimeters from the opening height so that the lamellas do not lie on the window sill.

If you want to attach the blinds to the wall above the window, it is better that they are slightly wider and go over the border of the window by fifteen centimeters. As for the length, it’s up to you. But the distance between the floor and the blinds must be at least 5 cm.
