How to choose a water heater for home and summer cottages: 3 rules

The surest way to survive the planned shutdown of hot water without losses and nerves and make suburban life more comfortable.

To solve the problem with hot water once and for all, you need to choose the right water heater – to make it convenient for you to handle it, you do not have to overpay for electricity. Well, make sure that the bathroom wall is strong and will withstand the structure.

1. Estimate the volumes

It is necessary to take into account how many people live in the house, and for which dwelling the water heater is selected. For a large family and for a family of two adults, the consumption of hot water will differ significantly, as well as the consumption of water in a city apartment and a large house. Obviously, the more liters a water heater holds, the more people it can provide with a hot shower. But if there are only two of you, then why do you need a huge boiler?

Some storage water heaters are presented in various sizes – with a capacity of 30 to 200 liters, which allows you to choose the best option. Please note that the goods must be manufactured in compliance with all the requirements of GOST, and the guarantee for the tank must be at least 7 years. With such a water heater, turning off the hot water is not scary.

2. Are we saving space or energy?

There are two types of water heaters: flow and storage. What’s the difference? A storage water heater is a large-sized heating system. Such devices are economical in energy consumption and do not need additional wiring. However, unlike instantaneous water heaters, storage water heaters heat the water longer, so you will need to wait about 30–40 minutes with a shower.

The built-in thermostat will help you to set the desired water temperature. For such water heaters, the water temperature can be set in the range from +18 to + 75 ° C.

Instantaneous water heaters are more compact, but they require a separate electrical cable. If you are going to install a flow-through type, you should install a circuit breaker on the electrical panel.

3. Where to hang?

According to the installation method, there are several types of water heaters: wall-mounted, floor-standing, only for vertical installation, only for horizontal installation and with the possibility of vertical and horizontal installation.

Choose a model depending on the available space; a horizontal type water heater takes up the least amount of space, so it can be easily installed under the ceiling. But such models are more expensive due to the more complex design. When buying such a device, you will definitely need to purchase a safety valve so that your water heater does not break due to excessive pressure.

Note

Before installing, carefully measure the place where you are going to install the water heater. It will be a shame to change the boiler just because it does not fit into the dimensions of the bathroom by a couple of centimeters.

If, in addition to this device, you will connect other electrical equipment, take care of purchasing a switchboard to prevent wiring problems. After all, any problems with it are fraught with fire – and this is not a joke.
