It would seem that only the beginning of winter, it is too early to think about school. In fact, no – registration of applications for admission to the first grades in Moscow, for example, will begin on December 15th. In order not to be mistaken with the choice of the institution, collect as much information as possible, talk to the teacher and ask the opinion of the future student. What to pay special attention to, we were told by Ekaterina Verchenova, teacher-psychologist, psychotherapist.

1. Analyze the child’s inclinations. You can consult a psychologist to determine the type of thinking. It is equally important to take into account the type of the nervous system – it depends on how much serious stress the student will pull.

2. Decide what you expect from education, make a plan for several years. If an individual approach is important, take a closer look at private schools. Do you dream to send abroad? Then to the international ones. Training can be built according to a traditional or developmental system, study the features of the programs.

3. Decide how much time you are willing to spend on the road. The best option is no more than 30 minutes. If the school is far away, the child will have to get up earlier and go to bed later. Lack of sleep will affect the quality of life – he will start to get tired faster, become irritable. Do you like school an hour away? Hang up no later than 9 o’clock. In addition, it is necessary to decide in advance what to do with the student on the way: it will be boring – he will get tired before the lessons begin.

4. Make a list of suitable schools. Look for reviews on the Internet, in local forums. Find former pupils and their parents on social networks. Explore the official rankings.

The first grade accepts children who on September 1, 2019 will be at least 6 years old and 6 months old, but not more than 8 years old

5. Visit the open house days or arrange a meeting with the administration. Come without a child for the first time. Ask to tell how the quality of knowledge is assessed, whether there are circles and sections, whether the psychologist conducts classes for correction, what is the health worker’s schedule. The more people you interview, the better. Perhaps it will be possible to talk with one of the parents.

6. Meet the teacher and attend an open lesson. It is worth knowing in advance how he interacts with children. Pay attention to whether he is sitting at the table or constantly in contact with students, how he reacts to mistakes. If you have a shy child, then it is better to refuse from an authoritarian teacher who maintains a distance.

7. Bring the child. It is very important that he visited the institution, after all, it is he who will have to study. Observe the reaction, whether it is comfortable or interesting. Meet with the teacher, if the kid likes him, then you have come to the right place. In primary school, adaptation and academic performance largely depend on the figure of the teacher.

When examining the class, pay attention to …

…lighting… It should be even and warm. The vision of the child depends on it.

… dimensions… The office should be spacious, there should be enough free space between the desks. It is not always easy for children to change their minds from play to study. They need a place to run, to have fun.

… availability of a recreation area… Check if there is a place for change, at least a living corner. The child needs a personal space, the same locker for clothes that he can arrange.

Also appreciate the renovation of the building, how comfortable and safe the stairs are, whether there is a library, classroom visuals, photographs and drawings in the corridors.

If he goes to the same institution where he studies in the preschool group, it is enough to submit a written application addressed to the director.

In other cases, you can sign up online (for Moscow residents – on mos.ru before September 5, 2019). You will need the passport data of one of the parents, the series and number of the child’s birth certificate, the address of his registration at the place of residence or stay in Moscow, as well as SNILS. We will have to indicate three schools: one – territorial attachment, two – optional. First of all, children registered in the same area are enrolled, and then the rest, if there are free places.

After registration, within 30 days, you will receive an invitation to visit the school, you need to have the same package of documents with you. After seven working days, the child will be enrolled.

The brain has two hemispheres. The right side mainly receives signals from the left side of the body and controls it. The left serves the right side. Depending on which hemisphere is more developed, the child may have a propensity for the exact sciences or creative activity. Our rapid test will help you find out whether your child is thinking creatively or logically.

When answering the questions, count how many times you answer “left” and how many times you answer “right”.

1. Ask your child to lock their hands together. Which hand was on top?

2. Now have him cross his arms over his chest. Which hand is on top?

3. Give the preschooler a toy. With which hand did he take it?

4. Observe which ear the child puts the phone on when talking.

5. Let the baby jump on one leg. Which leg did he choose?

6. Ask to cross your legs. Which leg is on top?

7. Give the child a rolled-up sheet of paper and have them imagine looking through a telescope. A kaleidoscope will do too. To which eye did he attach the object?

More Left Answers: the right hemisphere is better developed.

The child has creative, visual-figurative thinking. Such children love to draw, cut out, and do applique work. When assembling a constructor, they do not make standard models, but create a whole world, often a fantastic one. They are not interested in following clear instructions, they like to come up with something of their own. In the company of peers, they often initiate, offer games, give preference to role-playing performances with different characters, with dressing up. When talking about a cartoon they saw recently or a fairy tale they read, they pay attention to the details, and not to the general plot.

More Answers “Right”: the left hemisphere is better developed.

The child is a logician, he may like it at school with a mathematical bias, in-depth study of the exact sciences. Logic children love to build from a constructor, design, play board games. The company demonstrates leadership qualities, organizes the game process. Talking about a cartoon they saw recently or a fairy tale they read, they pay attention to the plot, and not to the details. They learn to plan the day early, prefer clear instructions.
