How to choose a pineapple

We love to buy pineapple for the festive table and it is very annoying when it turns out to be inedible or overripe and rotten in places. How to choose the right pineapple?

To begin with, pay attention to the pineapple tops – in a good ripe fruit, they are thick, dense, whole. The leaves should fall off easily, which means the pineapple is ripe and most likely tasty.

The pineapple peel should be intact and firm. Too hard pineapple – not ripe. The rind should be greenish, but the presence of spots on it indicates that the pineapple is spoiled and began to rot.

You can determine the ripeness of a pineapple by patting it with your palm. If at the same time the pops are deaf, then the fruit is ripe, the sonorous sound will indicate the immaturity or dryness of the product.

Ripe pineapple tastes sweet without an astringent sensation in the mouth. An intense scent will indicate overripe, so put one aside. The pulp of a ripe pineapple is yellow, while the unripe fruit is pale in color.

Unpeeled pineapples should not be stored in the refrigerator – they don’t like the cold.

Ripe pineapples are delivered by air and their price is significantly higher than immature ones, which are transported longer. Therefore, cost is also an important factor when choosing a good fruit.
