😉 Greetings to my regular and new readers! The article contains some simple tips on how to choose a hand cream without overpaying.
Hand cream: which one to choose?
Ladies, when you buy a cream, do not be lazy to familiarize yourself with the ingredients and the expiration date. Don’t be fooled by beautiful packaging. What’s inside? Let’s consider in order: useful components → necessary components → what you can do without.
Useful components
Water: absolutely all creams have water in their structure. The more water, the lighter its texture. And the choice, in this case, will depend on the type of skin. For dry, a denser texture is desirable – less water, more oils and other emollients. For oily, on the contrary.
If the cream is applied at night, then choose a denser composition. In the daytime, it is better not to load the epidermis, but to choose a cream with a lighter texture.
Vegetable oils, glycerin, vitamins A and E: soften, moisturize and nourish – perform the main function. These creams are time-tested and relatively inexpensive.
Required components:
There is actually no benefit from them, but for the preservation of the composition they are preservatives, you cannot do without them.
However, it should be borne in mind that preservatives are different. If there are different parabens in the components of one cream, they are synthetic compounds. The other has something like limonene and linalool instead of them, vitamin E. Without hesitation, you should choose the second option.
Natural preservatives are less harmful, but parabens have a rather bad reputation: they often cause allergies. Possibly carcinogenic and may harm you when exposed to light.
Also, the components can contain various glycols – polyhydric alcohols. For example, butylene glycol. Such components do not affect the skin, but serve as preservatives and provide a good texture.
Something you can do without
First, these are various monohydric alcohols – alcoholates. If more than 3% of them are indicated in the composition, then it is rather difficult to call a moisturizer.
Secondly, dyes and fragrances. If they are natural, and this is now a rarity, then they are quite acceptable. But even natural ingredients can cause allergies. In general, the function of these components is to please the eye and smell.
Thirdly, what they overpay for: supplements such as collagen, elastin, keratin, hyaluronic acid, advertising of which promises a miracle – the effect of rejuvenation.
It has been proven that the outer layer of the epidermis has a limited permeability – only 10 nanometers. But the size of expensive additives is at least 70 nanometers.
Obviously, these substances will not pass beyond the outer layer of the skin and will not have a rejuvenating effect. The only function they will perform is to keep water on the surface.
How to apply the cream correctly
The permeability of the skin is affected by air humidity. And the opinion is definitely wrong that if you apply the product on steamed skin – for example, after a bath – it will be absorbed better. However, leather is a kind of blotter.
What does it mean? The upper layer of the epidermis has a porous structure – like a sponge. And it is quite obvious that a dry sponge will absorb more moisture. Also here. Therefore, for the best hydration, the skin must be dry.
Thus, looking at the composition of the cream, you can draw certain conclusions, regardless of what price category it is located in. Beautiful packaging and an expensive brand cannot guarantee that the hand cream will fulfill all the advertising promises.
