How to choose a foundation: video tips

A foundation is the basis of a competent make-up. Now, with a huge variety of cosmetics, it is very important to choose the one that suits you in color, texture, and composition in order to highlight the advantages of your appearance and hide flaws.

How to choose a foundation

How to choose a foundation by skin type

Many modern cosmetics contain medicinal ingredients, and foundation is no exception. There are varieties for different skin types.

When choosing a foundation for oily skin, remember that it contains substances that regulate sebum production and eliminate oily sheen – zinc, sulfur, B vitamins. For this type of skin, a light tonal emulsion or matting cream-powder is suitable. Spot blemishes can be hidden with a corrector or concealer.

For dry skin, creams are produced containing substances that are able to retain moisture, as well as nourishing oils – grape seed, avocado, almond, etc. In texture, this is usually a dense thick cream that hides skin imperfections well.

Foundation powder is not suitable for dry skin, which will visually age the face

In summer, it makes sense for owners of dry skin to pay attention to BB creams, which, in addition to moisturizing, perform the function of protecting against ultraviolet radiation. They are characterized by a light texture, thanks to which they lie imperceptibly on the skin. As a rule, BB creams are used as a foundation because of their poor color palette – light shades of beige.

Foundations are available for mature skin with a lifting effect, containing moisturizers and antioxidants. They fit well on the skin and allow you to reliably hide its defects. Older ladies should not use foundation powder and cream stick, which will only accentuate existing wrinkles.

For young skin, a moisturizing tint cream is suitable – it will help to hide small imperfections of a young face and add an impression of freshness or tanning, if desired.

How to choose the right foundation by color

The shade of the foundation should not completely match the skin color. If the skin is pinkish, you should choose a light beige shade of cream, if dark – beige and apricot, if yellow – beige and pink.

When choosing a cream, you can apply a small amount to the lower part of the cheekbone and smear well with your fingers. If the cream is not visible on the skin, and the borders of the spot are not visible, then a good option has been chosen.

You should not check the cream on the back of your hand – the skin color on the hands and face is very different

If you choose a cream for daytime makeup, you should prefer mattifying textures and natural shades. For evening make-up, you can choose a cream with reflective particles and darker tones.

How to apply foundation correctly

Liquid and creamy foundation can be applied with a special brush, sponge or fingertips, and cream stick and mousse can be applied with your fingers. First, a small amount of cream is applied to the forehead, cheekbones and chin, and then gently shaded along the massage lines all over the face. Excess product can be removed by blotting your face with a tissue.
