How to choose a cap for swimming in the pool

We figure out how to choose the right cap so as not to experience discomfort while swimming.

How to choose a swimming cap? A question that rarely bothers pool goers. But in vain. Let’s figure this out.

Why do you even need a swim cap?

There is an opinion that it is needed solely in order to simply approach the bathing suit. Not really. The purpose of the swimming cap is as follows:

  • The cap protects the scalp from the effects of chlorinated pool water.  Chlorine is used for purification and disinfection. The scalp and hair on it are the most sensitive place. The hat is a shield.
  • The cap prevents water from entering the ears.  Even novice swimmers are faced with the fact that water constantly gets inside the ears. Creates discomfort.
  • The cap prevents hair from entering the pool.  Has it ever happened to you that after washing in the shower you found your own hair from your head at the bottom of the cabin? Or maybe a plum? Now imagine. There are many swimmers in the pool and all without hats. All hair that can clog filters and drains.
  • The cap reduces resistance.  Here already on swimming. The headgear helps to reduce the resistance when swimming, which are created by hair and ears.

So, we learned what a swimming cap is for. Now let’s talk about how to choose the right one.

How to choose the right swimming cap?

Everything is very simple. We look at two parameters – tightness and convenience. What are the types of caps for swimming in the pool?

  1. Latex. Disadvantages: low strength, sticks to hair. Suitable only for people with a minimum amount of hair on their heads.
  2. Silicone. Tightly fit the head and protect from water ingress. It can stretch to 2 times its size and not tear. Easy to care for – just rinse in fresh water after visiting the pool. Disadvantage: Can be damaged by hair clips.
  3. Fabric These hats are made from the same materials as swimwear. Her main task is to collect hair. Ideal for water aerobics. It is unsuitable for classical swimming, because water can get on the head through the pores.
  4. Combined. Textile inside, silicone outside. These hats are perfect for training in the pool. Silicone does not get wet, and the fabric helps keep your head comfortable. Keep warm.

Our recommendations for pool caps

Everything comes from the purpose, materials and purpose of the classes.

  • If you do water aerobics, a cloth cap will do.
  • If you swim at an amateur level, then the best option is silicone or combined.

After each workout, be sure to rinse and wash the cap in fresh water and, preferably, with soap. So, you will be fully prepared for the next workout.
