How to test a dishwasher? Often, the diagnostics are performed by the system itself, thanks to which a fault code is displayed on the display. Having deciphered the error, it is important to respond to it correctly.
We will tell you what to do if the equipment suddenly stops. How to quickly find the cause and fix the problem.
How a system check is performed
In the instruction manual you can find the meaning of the error codes for your dishwasher model. The software module has a built-in verification algorithm. As soon as the equipment fails, the module identifies the problem and displays icons on the screen. This is how the machine tells you where to look for the problem.
In a PMM without a display, the error is manifested by the flashing of the indicators on the panel.
In Bosch, Electrolux machines, this system is well developed. Consider the most popular codes, their meaning and troubleshooting steps.
Dishwasher malfunctions, solutions
The self-diagnosis system is constantly being improved by the manufacturer. So, the Bosch technique has up to 200 different characters, but these codes remain the most relevant:
- E1 – no water heating.
- E2 – incorrect pressure switch data.
- E5 – overflow of water in the system.
- E6 – the Aquastop system is out of order.
- E9 – heating element is defective.
- E15 – system blockage, leakage protection.
- E17 – no water intake.
- E21, E24 – the drain pump does not work.
- E27 – the voltage in the network is not enough for the normal operation of the equipment.
Dishwashers “Electrolux” without a display and with a screen most often give the following errors:
- The END lamp flashes once. i10 is displayed on the scoreboard. Water is not poured into the bunker.
- END – 2 times, code i20 – no drain in the system; blockage.
- END – 3 times, symbol i30 – “Aquastop” worked.
- END – 6 times, i60 error – no water heating.
How to deal with breakage? Let’s take a closer look at what needs to be done when an error occurs.
Repair by own hands
Let’s imagine typical problems and ways to solve them.
A heating element
If you saw the icons E1, i60 on the display, there was a malfunction in the heater or its electrics. See if you have chosen a cold cycle without heating. If on other programs the washing takes place in cold water, then the heating element, wiring and temperature sensor are checked.
- The flow heater is built into the design of the circulation pump.
- Disconnect the machine from the network and communications.
- Turn over to the back panel and open access to the bottom.
- Inspect the heater and wires for burn marks.
- To diagnose electronics, connect the multimeter probes to the contacts.
- The element is operational with a resistance of 1500 ohms.
- Examine the temperature sensor.
- In the event of a malfunction, the parts are replaced.
- To do this, disconnect the wire chips, unscrew the fastening screws.
- Install a new part.
Level sensor
The problem is indicated by the code E2, i30. The reason may be not only in the breakdown of the pressure switch, but also in the violation of its contacts. As a result, the board does not receive a signal about the water level in the tank. The mechanical operation of the pressure switch can be checked by blowing into its tube. If clicks are heard, the device is in order.
The electronic component of the pressure switch is also measured with a multimeter.
The cause of the sensor failure may be hard water. Limescale is deposited on its elements. Therefore, do not forget to add salt to the tank. What dishwasher salt to choose, read the article.
Water drain problems
Did the equipment give errors E21, E24, i20? There were problems with the drain. The machine may stop in the middle of a cycle with water in the hopper. What to do:
- Check drain filter. Rinse it under the tap, brush it with a non-rigid brush. How to replace the filter, read here.
- Clean the pump impeller. Remove the flap and check the impeller for threads, hair and other debris.
- Inspect the drain pump, hose pipe.
- In extreme cases, a blockage could occur in the sewer (with a direct connection). Then the drain hose is removed, and the sewer is cleaned with special equipment.
By cleaning the filter after each wash cycle, blockage problems can be avoided.
No water inlet
Code E15, E20 indicate similar problems. This is the operation of “Aquastop” and a blockage in the filling system. In both cases, water does not enter the chamber.
Check the Aquastop hose immediately. Unscrew it from the body and look into the hole. If the valve is tightly pressed against the walls, it means that a leak has occurred and the protection has worked.
If you had mechanical protection, the Aquastop hose must be completely replaced.
If the protection did not work, then:
- Turn the stop valve.
- Check for water in the system.
- Inspect the intake hose for blockage. Rinse under the tap.
- Clean the filter mesh at the inlet to the valve.
- It is clogged with scale, rust, small debris. Put it for a while in a container with water and citric acid.
- Diagnose the intake valve with a multimeter. To find out if the membrane is working, the valve is supplied with an operating voltage.
- The part is easy to change: unscrew the screw and disconnect the wiring.
Electronics problems
Absolutely all error codes can indicate a malfunction of the electronic module. This is because the board manages the nodes in the system. For this, triacs are located on it, each of them is responsible for the operation of the pump, heating element, and so on.
Why does the module fail? As a result of a short circuit, the capacitor burns out, and then the wiring “flies”, the board itself or its individual parts. Moisture ingress is also fraught with damage.
Only a specialist can repair the board. But you can check it out yourself:
- Disconnect the equipment from the network.
- Open the chamber door.
- Loosen the screws around the perimeter of the inside of the door.
- Close the door and remove the outer panel.
- Disconnect the black wire.
- Remove the module and unfasten the wiring chips.
If burnt areas are visible on the surface, then contact the service center or call the wizard.
The control board is an expensive part. If your dishwasher has served for many years, then it is more profitable to purchase a new appliance.
