How to change the noise filter in the washing machine with your own hands

Every year, manufacturers are improving washing machines more and more – there is a struggle for the quality of parts and assembly. But, even despite high-quality components, washers break down – often due to sudden voltage drops in the network.

Power surges could instantly destroy the control board and all electronic components if a noise filter were not provided to protect them.

Why does a washing machine need a noise filter

The noise suppression or power filter is designed to protect the electronic “stuffing” of the washer. The wider the functionality and the greater the choice of programs, the more sensitive the control, the more dangerous voltage drops are for them. There is a high probability that they will lead to the combustion of one of the elements.

Initially affected:

  • main board;
  • electric motor;
  • heating element (TEN);
  • wiring.

If you want to avoid costly repairs, do not neglect the timely replacement of the mains filter for your washing machine.

In addition, the mains filter protects other equipment from high-frequency currents that may flow during the operation of the SMA.

Principle of operation

Standardly passes vibrations with a frequency of 50 GHz through itself. Anything below or above this value is blocking the part. However, the protection may not withstand too high voltage surges.

In this case, the noise filter will need to be replaced.

For more reliable protection, it is recommended to use a voltage stabilizer. It will help protect the parts of the washing machine from damage.

Varieties of capacitors

The filter can be not only internal, but also external. The internal one is immediately installed during the production of the machine. External is an extension cord for 3-8 outlets. It is equipped with buttons that turn off the electricity supply to the equipment in case of a voltage drop.

Replacement sequence

How to understand that the filter is broken? Outwardly, this may be manifested by the fact that the washing machine does not turn on, or when it is turned on, it knocks out the switch in the switchboard.

This is a dangerous breakdown that leads to a short circuit and fire. Therefore, first of all, disconnect the device from the mains.

How to check the noise suppression capacitor

For this, a multimeter tester is used.

To get to the condenser, do the following:

  1. After disconnecting the washer from the mains, unscrew the two bolts at the back, remove the top cover.
  2. At the top of the side wall is a power filter.

Inspect the part: during combustion, burnt or burnt parts of the wiring are usually visible. Then it is already clear that it needs to be replaced.

What to do if no outward signs are found:

  • Set the multimeter to the resistance measurement position.
  • Connect its probes to the capacitor contacts.
  • Perform check-in and check-out.

The capacitor is faulty if there is no voltage at the output during the measurement.

How to change the surge protector in a washing machine? Proceed like this:

  • On the rear panel of the CMA, unscrew the two bolts securing the filter.
  • If you are not sure that you remember the location of the capacitor wires correctly, take a picture of them.
  • You can do it even easier: take a new filter in your hand and alternately switch the connectors from the old to the new part.

If you do not know how to choose the right new part, remove the broken capacitor and go to the store with it. The seller will give you a suitable item for your machine.

This is a simple repair that even a beginner can handle. By organizing the right protection for your equipment, you save on its further repair.
