How to “design” your heart in order to enjoy it as long as possible? How to fight cholesterol? Are there rules for the effective treatment of hypertension? Why is atrial fibrillation a risk factor for stroke? What is the impact of the condition of the oral cavity on the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases and is sport really good for health? In addition, we suggest what a diet for the heart should look like and what ingredients support our hearts every day. The answers to these issues can be found in the next edition of the campaign “Heart – take care, control, but” prepared by Warsaw Press in connection with World Heart Day.
World Heart Day is an ideal opportunity to remind the society that it is worth taking care of the heart, therefore another initiative of the Warsaw Press publishing house in cooperation with the Polish Cardiac Society and the Polish Society of Hypertension. The campaign was published in Gazeta Wyborcza as a special thematic supplement. It covers the most important areas related to prophylaxis and therapeutic options. Regarding the purpose of the World Heart Day celebration, we are talking with the President of the Polish Cardiac Society, prof. dr hab. n. med. Piotr Hoffman, who pays special attention to preventive actions and the development of pro-health behavior among the society from an early age. We also ask about the current, but very important, issue regarding the reduction of funding for most invasive cardiology procedures. President of the Polish Society of Hypertension, prof. dr hab. Krzysztof Narkiewicz, MD, and Anna Szyndler, MD, PhD, indicate what determines the effectiveness of therapy in arterial hypertension, as well as the important doctor-patient relationship. We discuss with prof. dr hab. n.med. Wojciech Drygas, who outlines the current epidemiological statistics on heart and vascular diseases. However, why not only neurologists, but also cardiologists talk about a stroke, and the high risk of ischemic stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation – answers prof. dr hab. n. med. Piotr Pruszczyk. We talk to prof. dr hab. Artur Mamcarz, MD, PhD. Together with Dr. Iwona Ostrowska-Różańska, a specialist in conservative dentistry, we pay attention to the relationship between oral hygiene and the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases. Moreover, Andrzej Światowiec, MD, PhD, a cardiologist, advises how to take appropriate physical activity with caution.
What’s more, Experts indicate risk factors for cardiovascular diseases, suggest what a healthy diet for the heart should consist of and what ingredients support our hearts every day.
The face of this issue is Kamila Szczawińska, the Ambassador of the Moda na Heart Campaign, who points out that in the rush of everyday life, women, apart from taking care of their husbands’ hearts, should also take care of their own.
