How to care for dracaena: in a pot
Dracaena has green decorative leaves. If not properly cared for, they can turn yellow and lose their beauty. In addition, the flower runs the risk of getting sick and dying.
How to care for dracaena?
Healthy dracaena has smooth leaves with a rich green hue. The plate should be free from irregularities, damage, dark spots and dry areas. Young plants tolerate a change of scenery well. They can be carried from one place to another. It is not recommended to move adult large flowers. They are sensitive to the change in growing conditions.
Plant care is simple. The main thing is to make it regular. It consists in creating comfortable conditions:
- Watering – The plant needs moderate watering. The soil can be moistened no more than 2 times a week. The top layer must remain dry. The lower layers need more moisture. Stagnant water is detrimental to the root system. In winter, watering is reduced to once a week.
- Cleansing procedures – the accumulation of dust, cobwebs and other contaminants on the foliage is unacceptable. Leaves should be regularly wiped with a damp towel.
- Lighting – light should be soft and diffused. The east or west side is suitable for growing the plant. Direct sunlight causes leaf burns, and a complete lack of light leads to growth arrest. If there is a lack of lighting, artificial light can be installed.
- The temperature should correspond to 15-25 degrees. It is permissible to lower the temperature to 10 degrees during the rest period.
To form lateral buds, it is necessary to prune every spring. The cut is carried out with a sharp instrument and is processed from bacteria.
How to properly care for dracaena in a pot?
Plant growth is influenced by the growing conditions. The pot must match the size of the flower, so as not to hinder the development of the root system. Acidic soil containing peat, turf and sand is suitable for dracaena. To prevent root disease, the soil must be loosened regularly.
When caring for dracaena, it is necessary to keep the plant in a suitable pot. This requires regular transplants.
A transplant is necessary if the root system has completely filled the earthen lump. It is carried out in the middle of spring. The diameter of the new pot should be 2 cm larger than the previous one.
With proper care, dracaena can reach significant sizes. She needs a lot of room to grow. In cramped conditions, it can become dull and inconspicuous.
