How to calm down quickly

In the life of each of us, there are situations when the nerves make themselves felt. In this case, you need to be able to keep your emotions under control and not let yourself “break”. Here are some ways to help you deal with anxiety quickly.

In our frantic pace of life, the words “anxiety” and “stress” are almost an integral part of life for a modern person. There are situations when the nerves are at their limit and are about to burst out. And then it is very useful to know how to calm down quickly and avoid many health problems.

Psychologists advise using certain life hacks in situations where you understand that unnecessary destroyed nerve cells will not lead to anything good. Of course, in this case, it is useless to cope with chronic stress or depression, but it is quite possible to avoid a sharp outburst of emotions.

  • The most common technique is to switch attention from the current nervous situation to your breathing. Take a deep breath, hold your breath, and count to ten. You can also concentrate on the breathing process itself, mentally speaking and monitoring the flow of air into the lungs and back.

“I breathe in, the air passes through the nose into the trachea, then into the bronchi and into the lungs” and “Here carbon dioxide comes out of the lungs through the bronchi and trachea, and through the nose it leaves the body.”

  • But it often happens that there is no time for breathing exercises and it is imperative to know how to calm down quickly, using the “express method”. When we are too tense and we are completely under the control of emotions, it is not uncommon for the hands and the whole body to tremble, the pulse quickens, and breathing is disturbed. This technique can help: press your thumb on the point between the nose and lips for 3 seconds. If this method does not work right away, repeat it after a while.

  • Also, one of the effective ways to calm down quickly is to massage the point located in the middle of the chin. Massage it 9 times in a circle in one direction, and 9 times in the opposite direction.

  • Pressing alternately on the pad of each finger will help you to calm down quickly. You can also massage each one for 2-3 minutes.

  • For those who are regularly under stress, the best way is the so-called “grounding”. As soon as you feel that the tension overwhelms you, grab something metal (door handle, battery, refrigerator) with your hand, turn on the water and hold your hands under water for a while. If you are outside, touch a tree, stand on the ground (preferably with bare feet). This process lasts no more than 30 seconds. In this case, you need to inhale sharply and exhale slowly. During “grounding”, mentally imagine that all the negative from you goes into the ground and peace comes to you.

Of course, some may say, “It’s easy to advise how to calm down quickly, but difficult to comply with when you’re overwhelmed.” And they will be right, the advice is created in order to follow them and think about what needs to be done in a given situation. And if you are unable to change the situation that annoys you so much, then it is worth changing your attitude towards it, right?
