In preparation for the wedding, the organizers of the celebration are faced with the task of correctly calculating the range and quantity of alcoholic beverages. The lack of alcohol at the wedding displeases the guests, but its excess significantly increases the budget of the event and provokes unpleasant incidents. We have to look for the golden mean. There is a simple method based on statistics and the experience of restaurateurs.
Usually, no wedding in Russia is complete without champagne, wine and vodka. They are bought first. Other types of alcohol take a slightly different approach.
For example, it is advisable to purchase cognac, whiskey, tequila, gin and other exotic only if their connoisseurs are present at the celebration. The organizers should inquire about the alcohol preferences of the guests. Of course, it is very difficult to please everyone, and in the case of a large wedding it is completely impossible, but the main characters: young people, their parents and other honored guests should be satisfied. Near them you can put a few bottles of elite alcohol.
Previously, beer was not considered a wedding spirit, but recently it has become fashionable. The best option is to buy a 5-liter barrel and put it aside, warning the guests. Everyone will come to the keg and pour their own beer.
Calculation of the amount of alcohol
The easiest option is to order alcohol in the institution where the wedding is planned. Usually employees of restaurants and cafes determine the right amount well. Also, if necessary, you can make an additional order for several bottles. The obvious disadvantage of such a decision is that you will have to overpay, and in the case of a wedding in another place, for example, at home, this is completely impossible.
When independently calculating the amount of alcohol for a wedding, restaurateurs advise using the average statistical data on the use of alcoholic beverages by guests. For Russia, the statistics are as follows:
- one man drinks: 0,5 liters of strong alcohol (40 degrees) + 750 ml of wine + 300 ml of champagne;
- one woman: 250 ml of spirits + 750 ml of wine + 350 ml of champagne.
On average, for one drinking man, experts recommend ordering 1 bottle of strong alcohol, 1 bottle of wine and half a bottle of champagne. For one woman – half a bottle of spirits, one bottle of wine and half a bottle of champagne.
Multiplying these figures by the number of drinking guests, you will get the optimal amount of alcohol for a wedding. One caveat – it is better to buy 60% red wines and 40% whites. Wine brands are determined individually depending on the budget of the event and its contingent.

Many wedding guests can’t handle that much alcohol, but there will almost always be individuals who overfull the norm. Also, do not forget that several bottles can accidentally break when falling off the table.
To adjust the amount of alcohol received at the previous stage, you should contact people who understand the alcohol traditions of the region where the event will be held. It can be employees of local institutions or just your friends who recently had a wedding. By comparing how many bottles they took and your calculations, you can optimize the budget that you are going to spend on alcohol. Separately, you should take into account the time of year and temperature. When it’s hot, guests drink strong alcohol less willingly, but sometimes this rule doesn’t work.
