How to buy groceries: 9 golden rules

A spontaneous, ill-conceived trip to the grocery store can turn into unnecessary expenses and big losses. What mistakes shouldn’t be made when you go shopping for food?

1. Don’t go shopping in the evening

By the evening, not the freshest goods remain on the shelves of markets and supermarkets, and your fatigue and hunger will push you to buy at least something for dinner. There are a lot of people on weekday evenings, and choosing food in a hectic crowd is still a pleasure.

2. Buy products from trusted sellers

If you are confident in the trustworthiness of a store or outlet in the market, try to shop in the same place. And when sellers you know do not have the right product, do not risk purchasing it in a random place – it is better to wait for the delivery the next day.

3. Don’t let yourself be weighed down.

When the seller is familiar, there is little risk of being deceived. Otherwise, use a checkweigher that is available in every store and in every market. Even the smallest detail can have a significant impact on your finances.

4. Don’t go shopping hungry

Hunger will prompt you to make rash unnecessary purchases, as well as various snacks and semi-finished products, from the habit of using which you are trying to get rid of. Eat and only then go boldly to retail outlets.

5. Make lists

Another way to save your budget is to buy only what you need from the list. List all the finished products as needed within a few days and then just take it with you and follow the plan.

6. Do not buy products that are in a conspicuous place

Competent specialists lay out the goods in such a way that the most stale and unnecessary goods lay in the most conspicuous place. Bright packaging will grab your attention and end up in your grocery basket, but in fact – a completely useless purchase. Follow lists and ignore ads.

7. Don’t take everything.

Promotional tricks also include displaying a variety of related items for the main product. For meat and fish – marinades and sauces, for alcohol – unnecessary unhealthy snacks. Think carefully about whether you need to buy small things? Or at your home you probably have something to marinate the meat in and what to fry it on.

8. Don’t buy gutted fish

Even if you do not like to peel and gut fish, choose a whole one on the market and ask for it to be peeled with you for an additional fee. Initially gutted fish may be stale or thawed.

9. Don’t buy bright red meat

Too bright red color of the meat indicates that it was kept in a special solution before being sold to give it an attractive appearance. Also, do not take meat with mucus, which is slippery to the touch – this will help maintain your health.
