In one of the articles, we showed how to add author information to a Word document. In addition, Word stores a few more extended properties associated with the document. Some of them are displayed in the window Intelligence (Info). You can change them or create your own custom properties.
Custom properties can be created to store additional information about the document that is not on the tab Document (Summary) in the dialog box Additional properties (Advanced Properties). If there are some phrases or words in the document that are used frequently and may change as the document goes a long way from the first to the latest revision, setting some custom properties that can be inserted into the document can be very useful. In this case, it is enough to change the value of the property in only one place, and the change will occur throughout the document.
Note: The illustrations for this article are from Word 2013.
To create a custom property, open an existing (or create a new) Word document and click the tab File (Queue).
A window should open Intelligence (Info). If this is not the case, click on the button of the same name in the list of sections on the left.
Now press the button Materials (Properties) and from the drop-down menu select Additional properties (Advanced Properties).
A dialog box will appear with the file name (without extension) in the title. Go to the tab other (Custom).
You can select one of the predefined custom properties from the list at the top of the tab. If the desired property is not there, enter a name for the custom property in the field Name (Name) above this list. Choose what type of data will be stored in the created property: Text (Text), date (Date), Number (Number), Yes or no (Yes or No), and enter the value of the property in the field Value (Value). Click Add (Add).
The custom property, along with its value and type, appeared in the list Materials (Properties). Click OKto close the dialog box.
The created property will not appear in the window Intelligence (Info), but you can insert it into the document using the express block Field (field). In one of the articles we talk about this in more detail.
