If you’re sharing or collaborating on a Word document with other people, you’ll probably need an easy way to add comments to parts of the text. Today we will look at how to add notes in Word 2010 documents.
Inserting a note
To add a comment, highlight the area of text you want to comment on. Go to the tab Review (Review) and press command New Comment (Create note).
This will open a floating field pointing to the selected text in which you can write a note.
Word allows you to create as many notes as you like. In this example, we have created a total of three comments in different places in the document. Now you or any other person who has this document will be able to read these notes.
Viewing Notes
Let’s say you want to see all created notes in the panel Reviewing Pane (Verification area). To do this, go to the tab Review (Review), click the dropdown menu Reviewing Pane (Scan area) and select the panel location you need Horizontal (Horizontal) or Vertical (Vertical).
Here is an example of what the comments view looks like when the panel is horizontal. You see the note, who added it, and when. Click on any annotation and you will be moved to the place in the document where it was inserted.
This is what your notes will look like on the vertical panel on the left side. Choose the panel location option that is most convenient for you.
Creating a Note to a Note
Sometimes you need to respond to a note, this can be done by creating your own note to an existing one. This is very handy when collaborating on a document or brainstorming. Just highlight an existing note and hit the command New Comment (Create note).
Below this note, another one will appear:
Delete a note
After all the changes have been made, or you have changed your point of view on some issue, you can delete unnecessary notes. To do this, select the note you want to get rid of and press Delete (Delete).
Or open the drop-down menu and remove all comments from the document at once.
Creating documents in Word 2007 and 2010 is reminiscent of a student’s past, when the teacher held a red pen in his hands and was ready to circle the text on the thesis sheet, leaving his notes in the margins. Creating notes in Word 2010 is much easier, and they look much neater.
