The carrier of the rarest disease was able to love her appearance.
Lizzie Velazquez was born in the US state of Texas. The girl was born completely ordinary, just thin and could not put on weight in any way. Lizzie’s parents ran with her to the doctors and listened to disappointing diagnoses that their long-awaited child was terminally ill and would probably never be able to walk and develop normally. Later it turned out that the girl had a rare genetic disorder – Wiedemann-Rautenstrauch syndrome, in which the body does not accumulate fat, aging prematurely, which makes her appearance frightening. Contrary to the forecasts of doctors, Lizzie not only learned to walk. She graduated from high school, university, wrote several books, shot a documentary, is a popular blogger, a frequent guest on various shows and teaches people to be happy.
Lizzie as a child and now
When Lizzie was still very young and her parents walked with her, all and sundry were pointing at the family, but the Velasquez did not hide their special daughter, but proudly walked with her through the streets. At the age of four, the baby went blind in her right eye, but this did not stop her from preparing for school and going to it. Naturally, the children teased a girl who was not like the others. Only her parents and younger brother and sister, who were born completely healthy, treated her with love and understanding.
The Velazquez family assembled
As a teenager, the girl unwittingly became an Internet star when a video about her with the title “The Scariest Woman in the World” was posted on YouTube. This video has received over four million views. In the comments to him she was called a monster and insulted in every possible way … Then Lizzie, who hates her appearance, felt that she was tired of this state. Thanks to that very video, a turning point came in her life: she was no longer ready to put up with the anger of others. The girl decided to prove to all those who laugh at her that appearance is far from the main thing and success can be achieved even when you are not like everyone else.
Velasquez graduated from Sunday school, worked as a religion teacher for three years, and then entered the university’s public relations department and began filming motivational videos in support of people who are bullied for their unusual appearance.
Lizzie was quickly noticed and began to invite to perform at women’s festivals, where the girl joked that those who stared at her with fear should better stand on the right side, because with this eye she could not see anything. Soon she was called on television, and then she wrote an autobiography.
When Velazquez decided to make a documentary about her life and illness, she announced a collection on the Internet and instead of the 180 thousand dollars that were required, she raised as much as 215 thousand.
Now Lizzie is actively blogging, training, writing books on how to become happy in irresistible circumstances. More than 630 thousand people have subscribed to her account, including model Ashley Graham, who supports her in every possible way.
At 31 years old, with an increase of 152 centimeters, the girl weighs only 29 kilograms and tries to eat every 15 minutes.
“I could advertise weight loss products,” jokes Lizzie.
Due to her weak immunity, Velazquez may end up in the hospital for two weeks even from a common cold, but nevertheless she does not hide from the outside world. He travels a lot, loves to sunbathe on the beach, buy outfits, including evening dresses, and enjoys taking pictures with fans.
As Lizzie says, she has already learned the main thing in life, accepted herself for who she is. Now her goal is to convey knowledge to other people and help in the study of her mysterious disease, which, in addition to Velazquez, affects two other people in the world.
