She has always been the main place in the house. And now – especially.
Now many of us are firmly entrenched at home: remote work due to quarantine. As Tutu.ru found out, most of the “remote workers” sit in the kitchen. The amount of time we now spend there, next to the stove and refrigerator, has grown exponentially. True, this does not affect the figure in the best way, but we are not talking about that now. And about how important it is for the kitchen to be comfortable.
But such demands were not always made on her. Service designers for the selection of professionals in the field of repair traced the evolution of cuisines back to the Middle Ages. They were guided by the needs of a person in each period of time, by pictures and historical evidence of how the interior looked in different centuries, talked with historians. True, they made a rather large step in time: a century long. But it turned out all the same curious.
Sample kitchen 1520 years was predictably gloomy. The window is covered with a not very transparent material and covered with bars. The ceiling is rather low, vaulted, stone walls and floor, a smoky hearth, a flimsy table and simple utensils. There is a chandelier with candles under the ceiling.
Now something similar is offered by the rustic style. True, in a much more glamorous version, as in the photo.
A century later the kitchen is already clearly lighter: the window is slightly larger, the walls are plastered, a brazier has appeared over the stove. There is even a kitchen cabinet, a shelf for plates, and the table is already much stronger and more solid. The dishes are no longer only metal, but also ceramic – so they have not gone out of fashion since then. And the doors were not just random, hastily knocked down from the boards, but a massive wrought-iron door.
В 1720 year the kitchen already looks downright romantic. No soot, the room is getting brighter. A polished cauldron shines in the hearth, and the furniture is no longer just practical, but also with a claim to elegance. Barrels are visible behind the door: at that time not only liquids were stored in them, but also flour, as well as other food.
In the kitchen XIX century the floor-to-ceiling window is immediately striking. A tablecloth appeared on the table, chairs – with soft backs, furniture is designed in the same style. The hearth is no longer there, it has been replaced by an ordinary stove. And finally the sink appeared. More and more attention is paid to hygiene, and for good reason: now we owe much of our life to her.
But in 60-ies of the last century, the kitchen has ceased to be attractive – from the height of our current experience. Floor tiles, two-tone walls, white furniture … In general, it looks more like a kitchen in a cafe than at home. True, the features of the time are impressive in contrast to previous kitchens: electric lighting and appliances, everything is functional and convenient. And the sink is no longer a separate piece of furniture, but just a built-in element, familiar, like a switch on the wall.
Well, the kitchen XXI century – this is the most spacious, functional room, furnished in accordance with the preferences of the owner. Stone and plastic, steel and wood, ceramics and concrete – designers have learned to use literally everything.
