How the dishwasher works – diagram

The device of the dishwasher must be understood by each user. If you need cleaning or repairs, this knowledge will help you. What components and parts does a dishwasher consist of, what is the difference between one model and another? You will find answers to your questions in our publication.

How does a dishwasher work

All dishwashers inside consist of the same components and parts. The difference may be in the additional functionality and the elements necessary for it.

PMM Bosch, Electrolux, Ariston, Siemens, Zanussi consist of the following basic parts:

  • Engine. Serves to start the dishwasher units.
  • circulation block. Feeds water into the system and promotes its recirculation. Water passes through the circulation pump, from where it is supplied to the rocker arms and flies out of the nozzles under pressure. The jets wash off dirt from the dishes and flow into the filter, are cleaned and fed back to the sprinklers.
  • A heating element. The flow heater is part of the main unit. Water passes through the heater and instantly reaches the desired temperature.
  • The drain pump pumps out the waste water from the tank.
  • The drain pipe and hose provide outflow to the sewer system.
  • The intake hose or the Aquastop hose protects the equipment from leaks.
  • The mesh filter at the inlet of the filling valve protects the system from blockages from the water supply (rust, small debris).
  • Pressure switch (in some models – flow sensor). Detects the amount of water in the tank, then sends a signal to the control module.
  • Safety device.
  • Water reservoir.
  • Reservoir for softening water and eliminating heavy impurities. It should be constantly replenished with special salt.
  • The control unit with an electronic board is the “brain” of the dishwasher. Manages all nodes and processes in the machine.
  • Wiring, hoses, clamps.
  • Noise isolation.

Scheme of the dishwasher

Dishwashers can be of different types: built-in, compact, freestanding. At the same time, the internal design of the bunker does not change:

  • The body is made of stainless steel.
  • Inside, if you open the door, there are upper and lower sprinklers. They can be from one to four pieces.
  • Containers for plates, compartments for forks, spoons, knives.
  • Drainage filter with coarse and fine mesh.
  • Salt compartment.
  • On the door compartments for detergents, tablets, capsules.
  • Seal around the perimeter of the door.
  • Control panel, which may include keys, display, indicators.

What is the difference between PMM

The above details are a standard part of any dishwasher. Depending on the brand of the manufacturer (Electrolux, Ariston, Bosch, Hansa), the equipment can be supplemented with new functions and elements:

  • Heat exchanger. Its work allows you to quickly dry the dishes after the washing cycle. It is a reservoir of water that gives off heat and saves electricity.
  • Additional heater, fan. They serve as the basis of the turbo dryer. The heating element heats the air, and the fan accelerates it through the chamber. As a result, after a few minutes you take out dry dishes.
  • Turbidity sensor. Determines the purity of the water in the tank. The rinsing of the appliances will be repeated until the water runs clear. Therefore, the output plates are perfectly clean.
  • Rinse aid and salt sensor. As soon as the funds are running out, the sensors will report this, and you can replenish the stock in time.
  • Sensor Dry. The new development is found in expensive PMM models. This is a sensor that scans the ambient temperature and adjusts it accordingly in the bin.
  • Zeolite container. Another drying technology. Absorbing moisture, the mineral generates heat, which allows you to dry the appliances. Interestingly, the shelf life of the mineral is long, it is enough for the entire time of operation of the dishwasher. At the same time, the equipment does not consume electricity.
  • Water hardness sensor. The sensor readings serve as a signal for choosing the optimal washing program. Can only be found in expensive PMM.
  • Beam on the floor. A handy function to determine the end of the program. Depending on the type, it can be just a beam or an indication of the time until the end of the cycle (Bosch, Siemens).
  • Separate tray sprayer and glass holder. Components can go along with the technique (Indesit, Burning) or be purchased separately, as in the Beko technique, Ariston.

In addition, the technique may differ in the material of parts and components. For example, baskets can be made of plastic and metal, their holders can be foldable. Rocker arms are most often made of plastic, so you need to install the plates carefully so as not to damage the part. In rare models, metal atomizers are found.

The principle of operation of the dishwasher

Let’s briefly talk about the processes that occur after the launch of the PMM. Read more about how the dishwasher works in a separate article.

  • After loading dishes, adding detergents and selecting a program, the machine starts the cycle.
  • The main module sends a signal to the valve for water intake.
  • The pressure switch controls the required water level in the hopper and sends a signal about the end of the intake.
  • If the PMM is connected to a cold water supply, then the flow passes through the heater and reaches the required temperature.
  • The circulation pump supplies water to the rocker arms.
  • The jets wash the instruments through the nozzles.

Advice! When buying a machine, look at the shape of the atomizer. It is better when the bar is curved, and the nozzles are located at different angles. In this case, the dishes will be washed better.

  • Water flows into the pan, is cleaned by the filter and is again fed into the atomizer.
  • At the end of the wash, the waste liquid is pumped out by the pump and drained.
  • The intake cycle is repeated again and rinsing starts.
  • Drying starts. The door opens slightly and cool air circulates through the chamber.
  • An audible signal sounds at the end of the program or the beam flashes.

It remains to get the devices and place them in their places.

If you delve into the essence, then there is nothing complicated in the work and device of the equipment.
